Wedding: Averyt and Shafer

Elizabeth Anne Averyt and William Denson Shafer

Elizabeth Anne Averyt and William Denson Shafer were married Oct. 11, 2008 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Westminster, S.C. Doctor George Harper, Pastor, officiated the ceremony. A reception followed at Magnolia Manor, Westminster.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven M. Averyt of Westfield, Ind. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Barbara Davis and the late Mr. William E. Davis of Columbus, Ga. and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde R. Averyt, deceased. She is a graduate of Clemson University and is employed as a tutor in the Citrus County Florida School System.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh D. Shafer of Greenville, S.C. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Martin David Watkins of Westminster and Mr. and Mrs. William Douglas Shafer, deceased. He is a graduate of Clemson University and is employed as a civil engineer by Zachry Construction Company in Crystal River, Fla.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. She was attended by her maids of honor, Sarah K. Tiedge of Pelham Manor, N.Y. and Amanda M. Anderson of Columbus, Ohio. Bridesmaids were Caitlin C. Thomason, Lija Kaleps-Clark and Nicole M. Reynolds, all friends of the bride.

Hugh D. Shafer, father of the groom, served as best man. The groomsmen were Nathaniel C. Averyt and Jonathan D. Averyt, brothers of the bride, and Zach F. Van Gieson and Josh M. Loflin, friends of the groom.

Mrs. Kimberly Borom of Bristow, Va. played the organ and sang a solo. Mrs. Marina Averyt of New York, N.Y. was also a vocalist. Both are aunts of the bride.

After a wedding trip to Savannah, Ga., the couple resides in Crystal River, Fla.

Wedding: Messick and Holtzclaw

Emily Parris Messick and Thomas Ryan Holtzclaw

Emily Parris Messick and Thomas Ryan Holtzclaw were married on Dec. 20, 2008 at Seneca Baptist Church in Seneca, S.C. with the Rev. Dr. C. Von Reynolds and Rev. Phil Kelley officiating. A reception followed at Keowee Key Country Club.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Simmons Messick of Seneca. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Frances Messick and the late Mr. Arthur Messick of North Augusta and the late Mr. and Mrs. Guy Parris of Gaffney.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Holtzclaw of Seneca. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hawkins of Westminster, Ms. Helen Alford of Seneca and the late Mr. David Holtzclaw of Mt. Holly, N.C. Mrs. Frances Kelley of Seneca served as honorary grandmother.

Maid of honor was Miss Alyse Costa of Taylors, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids, all friends of the bride, were Miss Kirsten Butler of Lexington, Miss Andi Evans of Westminster, Miss Elizabeth Reynolds of Seneca, Miss Catherine Wells of Florence, Miss Sara Lynn Winburn of Elgin and Miss Brette Winston of Snellville, Ga. The flower girl was Sadie Elizabeth Hawkins of Westminster, cousin of the groom.

The groom selected his brother, Jerry Holtzclaw II of Seneca as his best man. Groomsmen were brother of the bride, Andrew Messick of Seneca, and friends, Kip Metler of St. George, Rev. Joel Morgan of Trenton, Tenn., Rev. Kevin Morrison of Central, Joe Don Reames and Jared Rothell, both of Seneca.

Music for the ceremony was provided by Holly Parris Jollay on the piano, Mike Conner on the guitar and Cory Davis, Dylan Davis, Kristen Butler and Ray Hartzog as vocalists.

The bride is a graduate of Seneca High School and Clemson University and is employed as an English teacher at Fox Creek High School in Edgefield County.

The groom is a graduate of Seneca High School and Anderson University and is an ordained minister. He is employed as an Associate Pastor/Minister of Students at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Augusta, Ga.

After a wedding trip to Walt Disney World in Florida, Rev. and Mrs. Holtzclaw will reside in North Augusta, S.C.

Wedding: Miller and McLane

Jessa Miller and Corporal Mathew W. McLane

Mr. and Mrs. William K. Miller are proud to announce the marriage of their daughter, Jessa, to Corporal Mathew W. McLane on Sept. 27, 2008.

Jessa and Matt are high school sweethearts. They were together for seven years when they were engaged on top of the mountain at Snowshoe Ski Resort in West Virginia on Feb. 14, 2008.

The bride is a 2002 West-Oak High School graduate, a 2005 graduate of the Academy of Hair Technology and a graduate of Great Lengths Hair Extensions. She is employed by Soluna Salon & Spa in Seneca, S.C.

The groom is the son of Wanda H. McLane of Westminster, S.C. and Jack W. McLane of Seneca. He is a 2002 graduate of West-Oak High School. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in 2004, served in Iraq in 2005 and still serves our country today. He is employed as a lineman at Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative in Westminster.

An outside wedding took place on the hilltop at the home of the bride’s parents and a reception followed in the tents.

The maid of honor was the bride’s best friend, Ingrid DeWaele. The bridesmaids were the groom’s sister, Alicia Dorsey, and friend, Cassey Rainey.

The best man was the groom’s brother-in-law, Earl Dorsey, and the groomsmen were the bride’s brother, Bill Miller, and friend, Kent Dickert.

Ushers were Brandon Willard and Terry Willard.

Mr. and Mrs. McLane honeymooned at Edisto Beach and reside in Westminster. They would like to thank everyone for sharing this day with them.
