SENECA — Two senior living projects are springing up within Seneca city limits.
One project is an expansion of an existing development near downtown Seneca, while another is a new development on property bordering city limits. Seneca City Council approved both projects Tuesday night.
The new development — called Park Place — will take up an 11.5-acre site off Radio Station Road near State Credit Union. The facility will include 33 independent living units, 26 assisted living units and 14-memory care units, City Planner Tamy Sanford said.
The property owners annexed into city limits, the first time a tract of property joined the city since October 2007. Chip Fogleman, project engineer for Park Place, said the complex would join city limits to receive sewer service.
“They came to us and said they would like to be part of the city,” Sanford said. “They recognize the value of coming into city limits.”
Fogleman said Park Place is in the bidding process for crews so no construction timeline or completion date is known. With 119 beds in phase one, Park Place has space for growth, though Fogleman said future plans are uncertain.
Council also approved rezoning about three acres of property touching Applewood Villas apartments on 410 West South Fourth Street, Sanford said. A general residential space, Applewood owners seek to expand the complex to include senior living facilities.
