WALHALLA — A judge set bail at $25,000 for a man accused of causing multiple fractures to his 2-month-old son.

The 19-year-old father, Michael Daniels, remained jailed at the Oconee County Detention Center on Thursday.

Walhalla Police arrested Daniels Tuesday, more than a month after the baby was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital with injuries. Upon seeing the bruises on the child, hospital officials contacted the Department of Social Services in Oconee County. DSS called Walhalla Police.

Daniels was interviewed four times before being arrested. He lives at the Walhalla Gardens Apartments and was employed at McDonald’s in West Union.

Daniels is charged with three counts of child abuse and faces up to 20 years for each count if convicted.

Authorities have not arrested the infant’s mother, Natasha Perez. She reportedly has retained the services of Seneca attorney Delane Rosemond.

Rosemond could not be reached for comment Thursday.

However, Walhalla Police continue the investigation. Walhalla Police Capt. Ron Wilbanks, who is investigating the case, said he would charge anyone who had knowledge of the abuse.

Authorities say the infant was hospitalized several days at the Greenville hospital. A social worker said the boy had at least 20 fractures, bruised eyes, marks on the buttocks and skin ripped away in the gum area between the jaw and lips.

Somebody else in the home had to know what was going on. It doesn't sound like all that abuse happened in one episode. If he's found guilty and goes to prison, maybe he'll get some of the same treatment, like ripping the skin away from his gum. See how he likes that !!!! Children are a precious gift from God, and we as adults, need to love and protect them. ~The system IS NOT hard enough on child abusers!~
