LIBERTY — Three in Liberty are charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after a teen was fatally struck by an SUV in Pickens County.
Christopher Ryan Smith, a 17-year-old from Liberty, was struck last month after walking on U.S. 123 near the nine-mile marker. After an investigation into the case, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office charged Danielle Lea Moody, 24, and Melissa Ann Smith, 40, of Cadbury Drive and Douglas L. Wilson, 21, of Middleton Boulevard. All are accused of allowing at least 10 minors between 14-17 years of age to drink alcohol at a Cadbury Drive party.
Smith and his half-brother, Franklin Thomas, reportedly went to the party. Thomas told authorities he saw alcohol at the party, though he said he did not see Smith consume alcohol, according to a report from county authorities. Smith left the party around 4 a.m.
Authorities believed Smith was possibly under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred. Smith had attended Liberty High School.
