Fair Play Fire Department has been awarded a V-SAFE (Volunteer Strategic Assistance and Fire Equipment) Grant through the SC Fire Marshal's Office and the SC Firefighter's Association. The award of $27,900 has been used to purchase extrication equipment. Fair Play Fire Department was one of 104 departments in the state to receive this grant. On April 12 members of the Department met in the rain at RussellÕs General Store to receive extensive training in the use of the equipment purchased with grant funds. Four cars, donated by JerryÕs Towing of Townville, were systematically dismantled under the direction of an instructor. After a motor vehicle accident, victims are frequently trapped in the wreckage. Extrication is needed to provide immediate medical care and transportation to the hospital. Here, firefighter Ken Becker cuts the "A" post while Asst. Chief Mike Bear and Capt. Steven Adams observe.
