SENECA — Those waiting to see when Seneca Police Chief Stanley Sheriff will enter a plea in his shoplifting case will have to wait longer.
Toccoa Clerk of Court Jennifer Findley said Sheriff’s arraignment has not yet been rescheduled, and she has not been given a timeframe of when to expect the case to be put back on the calendar.
Sheriff is accused of attempting to leave a Wal-Mart with a camera and camera accessories without paying April 2 in Toccoa, Ga. The misdemeanor shoplifting charges still stand, although his arraignment hearing was set initially, rescheduled and then postponed last Thursday.
Sheriff’s previous attorney, Julian Stoudemire of Seneca, pushed back the arraignment from its original date in May to July 31. But Sheriff recently retained new legal representation in Andy Dowdy of Baldwin, Ga. Last week Dowdy was on vacation and could not represent Sheriff at the scheduled arraignment.
This week Georgia solicitor Tricia Leeman is also on vacation, further postponing rescheduling.
Sheriff’s defense is a claim of short-term memory loss due to a minor stroke. He has said he has no memory of his trip to Toccoa or what allegedly occurred inside the Wal-Mart.

My thoughts and Prayers are with the Sheriff family.
Thank you Stanley, for giving so much of yourself to this great city called Seneca - as Police Chief, - that you had "Burn Out." There are many, many people that understand doing so much 'work' - 24/7 - your body says - STOP. You have been given this period of rest and renewal for your body and mind to heal. Take care of yourself and return to good health.
No, I do not know you - nor do I live within the city ... but I do understand compassion. Too bad some of these other hateful folks don't - and for sure Stanley Sheriff would be right there to help and assist them, if they were ever sick and forced to understand.
My Prayer is "Father, forgive them - for they do not know."

Thank you very much, I am one of the most compassionate people on this earth when it comes to people in pain. It does not matter whether young or old, big or small--I will bow as low as possible to help anyone I can even when in my own pain.
But, when I see someone such as this using health and the system, I have no compassion. If any other common "Joe" had claimed this happened to him, he would be the laughing stock of the entire county, if not the state. I guess this is all okay because of who he is.
If he is telling the truth, why all the delay? Take the medical records from all his tests and get the charges dismissed.
FYI-- His lawyer can get it put off three times and Sheriff can get it put off three times, after that they have to proceed with the case in court.

My, My - You sure do sound as if you got to know the Police Chief - up close and personal.
I do not know him nor his family, but do know he is a Godly man. Are you?
If you only knew anything about "Job Burnout" - total colaspe ... but the body is still going ....you would be aware of what is possible for the body to do - without knowing or remembering. I hope and Pray you nor anyone else that 'judges' before knowing the truth EVER experiences what this fine young man and his family is going thu. I know & wish to God I had never seen a former - close co-worker experience exactly what Stanley Sherriff is going thu .... or maybe I DO wish you would find out what it's like!!!
When Seneca's Police Chief returns to work - he will be able to know the differance of someone that is sick - and needs medical treatment and a common thief.
My former co-worker was laughed at, judged and hurt by uncareing people that had no heart ... just as most folks are treating this case - without allowing the truth to be told.
This is the recomendation from Mayo Clinic - right, you've never heard of that place, either?? -- about Burnout: Recovery from burnout is possible, but it may require changes and take time, so don't expect a quick fix. Keep an open mind and consider all your options. Don't let a demanding job affect your health.
