PORTLAND, Ore. — Daniel High School softball player Carly Hoover pitched a complete game, striking out 10 batters in six innings, to lead the South to a 9-5 victory over the East in the Little League Softball World Series championship game on Wednesday in Portland Ore.

Hoover, a rising eighth grader at R.C. Edwards Middle School, also got the job done at the plate, as she opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI double. She later reached home on an error to push the lead to 2-0.

Hoover, the daughter of Clemson volleyball coach Jolene Hoover, helped lead Daniel to the playoffs last season, which saw the Lions advance to the district finals for the first time in school history.
