STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) _ As he watched Penn State score its eighth touchdown of the day, Coastal Carolina athletic director Warren Koegel had only two words.
"Oh boy," Koegel said as he watched Chaz Powell run 55 yards down the sideline to give the 22nd-ranked Nittany Lions a 66-10 win Saturday over Koegel's Chanticleers at Beaver Stadium.
It was a bittersweet homecoming for Koegel, one of several members of Penn State's undefeated 1968 and 1969 teams honored during Saturday's game.
After a pep rally Friday night, Koegel spent a few hours in Penn State Letterman's Lounge reminiscing about the seasons that vaulted the program to the national spotlight. Former Penn State linebacker Jack Ham and defensive lineman Mike Reid also attended.
Throughout the night, the group bantered about which unit was really better on those squads, the offense or the defense.
"It was fun last night because some of it was a little exaggerated, some of it was just good old fun poking at each other, but most of it was about respect and pride," Koegel said.
Coach Joe Paterno stopped by and told the group it was among the best he's ever coached, Koegel said.
Despite the loss, Koegel said Saturday's game was about gaining experience against tough opponents. Coastal Carolina will play Clemson next year, Big East power West Virginia in 2010 and Georgia in 2011.
"It's been a great experience for us," Koegel said. "We just wish it was a little closer."

FAMILIAR PLACE:@ William Richardson used to watch fans pack Beaver Stadium to see his brother, Wally, start at quarterback for Penn State in the mid-1990s.
On Saturday, it was William Richardson on the field as quarterback for Coastal Carolina.
Despite the loss, the younger Richardson said he enjoyed playing in the same stadium as his brother. He finished 13-of-22 for 131 yards passing while splitting time with Zach MacDowall.
"I just feel blessed, getting the opportunity to play for the same crowd my brother played for," Richardson said.
Wally Richardson started at Penn State from 1995-96, leading the Nittany Lions to a 20-5 record in that time. He holds the school record for completions in a game (33).

NITTANY DEBUTS:@ The successful season opener brought a host of debuts for the Nittany Lions.
Daryll Clark had an easy time in his debut as starting quarterback, completing 11 of 14 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown. The man he beat out for the starting job, sophomore Pat Devlin, also did well, going 5-of-8 for 83 yards and a pretty 40-yard pass over double coverage to Jordan Norwood down the left sideline.
Paterno had said the quarterback job was a "fluid situation," though he showed no signs that he wouldn't stay with Clark as the starter next week against Oregon State.
"I think Clark has won the job. I won't back away from that but I think Devlin is very close," Paterno said. "I just want to get them a good feel in the game. I think it's a good situation for us."
Among Nittany Lions making their collegiate debut, Stephfon Green had 89 yards and two scores on the ground, while Brandon Beachum added 43 yards and a touchdown. Wideout Chaz Powell ran for 60 yards on two carries, including a 55-yard TD after lining up in the backfield.

CAPTAINS' WALK:@ Sean Lee might be out of the year with a right knee injury, but it doesn't mean the captain isn't joining his teammates on the field.
Lee joined healthy captains Josh Gaines, Anthony Scirrotto, Derrick Williams and A.Q. Shipley in the pregame ritual of leading the team out on the field. Lee was dressed in street clothes while his teammates were in uniform.
He also helped out on the sideline, calling out plays in animated fashion and giving tips to teammates. The standout linebacker plans to return to the field in 2009.
"I keep telling people, I prefer him in front of me, I don't like him standing beside me," defensive coordinator Tom Bradley said.
___
JARED'S BACK:@ Defensive lineman Jared Odrick returned to the field after missing the last five games of the 2007 season with a dislocated right ankle.
The junior made a successful return, getting two tackles and a sack, one of four on the day for Penn State.
"It feels almost like a relief, but it's not really a relief because the season just started," Odrick said. "So there's plenty more to come for the whole D-line."
Odrick's return at tackle is key for a unit that has lost depth in the offseason. Chris Baker and Phil Taylor, who started games last year, were kicked off the team for off-field issues.
Devon Still is out for the season with a broken left ankle.
