High school roundup: Walhalla girls win tourney opener

TIGER, Ga. — The Walhalla High School girls’ basketball team opened the Rabun County High School Shootout with a 66-24 victory against Nantahala (N.C.) on Friday night.

Shanna Pearce led the Razorbacks (4-3) with 22 points, while Tish Winchester added 17 in the winning effort.

Walhalla will be back on the court tonight for the tournament championship game at 7 p.m.

WESTMINSTER — The West-Oak High School girls’ basketball team downed Liberty on Friday night by a final score of 54-42.

Amy Pearson led the Warriors (6-1) with 16 points in the victory, while Kalyn Stevenson also finished with 13 points for West-Oak.

The Warriors will be back on the court on Dec. 29 for the Walhalla High School Apple Classic tournament.

SENECA — The Oconee Christian Academy girls’ basketball team defeated Brashier Mc Charter by a final score of 45-31 on Friday night.

The Warriors (5-2), led by honorary coach Andy Stein, got 16 points from Alexandra Cloer, while Ali Van Minos also scored in double digits with 12 for OCA.

OCA will take a break for the holidays and return to action on Jan. 6 against Calhoun Falls.

Walhalla 65 (boys’ basketball)

TIGER, Ga. — Thanks to a strong effort from the free throw line, Nantahala High School (N.C.) defeated Walhalla by a final score of 74-65 in the Rabun County (Ga.) High School Shootout on Friday.

Nantalhala was 18-of-19 on the night from the charity stripe, including a 10-of-10 effort within the last four minutes of the game.

Walhalla (5-2) had Mike Brown, Meeshon Thompson and Isaac Williamson all finish with 11 points, while Nate Williamson added another 10.

The Razorbacks will play again at 5:30 p.m. against the loser of Rabun Co. (Ga.) and Highlands (N.C.).

SENECA — The Oconee Christian Academy boys’ basketball team took a 71-45 loss to Brashier Mc Charter on Friday night.

The Warriors (0-7) were led by Daniel Chewning, who finished the night with 15 points. Grayson Williams added 11 for OCA.

OCA will take a break for the holidays before returning to the hardwood on Jan. 6 against Calhoun Falls.
