CLEMSON — Three Clemson City Council seats and three Pickens County Board of Trustees seats will be up for grabs and candidates can begin filing for the seats at noon Friday through noon Aug. 15.
Clemson Mayor Larry Abernathy and council members Elouise James and Margaret Thompson are up for re-election. Abernathy has already stated that he will run again, Thompson announced she would not, and James said last February that she was undecided.
Local businessman Jim Oswald announced his intentions to run in May.
Clemson City Clerk Beverly Coleman said filing will take place at City Hall, with the filing fee set at $10. Candidates are asked to bring their voter registration card and photo ID.
Filing for school board seats 1, 3 and 5 will take place at the Pickens County Office of Registrations and Elections. Dr. Herbert Cooper, who represents the Daniel area; Alex Saitta, who represents the Pickens area; and Dr. Jim Brice, who represents the Easley area, respectively hold those seats.
The filing fee for the school board seats is one percent of the salary for the four-year-term.
In addition to the City Council and school board seats, Pickens County Registrations and Elections Director Rodney Allen said filing for seats with the Pickens County Watershed District is under way. Those seats consist of one in Brushy Creek, two in Oolenoy and three each in Georges Creek and Three and Twenty.
Interested candidates can file through the Pickens County Registrations and Elections office and specify the area in which they wish to run. There is no filing fee, but candidates must live in the area they plan to represent. Candidates must also complete a Statement of Candidacy form and ethics form, but are not required to pay a filing fee.
