Mike Teramano of the Seneca Police Department investigates the scene of an accident involving a two-door vehicle and a Cadillac on Townville Street that sent a woman to the hospital Monday.
SENECA SENECA — An automobile accident on Townville Street near Ram Cat Alley in Seneca sent one woman to Oconee Medical Center on Monday.
Witnesses at the scene say the collision occurred when an elderly man driving a Cadillac put his car in reverse, ramming into a woman while she was trying to take her baby out of her two-door vehicle. The child was not injured, but the woman’s legs suffered significant injuries in what one witness described as a particularly gruesome crash. Sundra Hanning, an employee at Fashion Shack, was working at the moment of the accident.
“I heard brakes screeching, and I went outside,” Hanning said. “I heard a lot of yelling and screaming, and I saw the car had gotten her legs, so I ran back inside to tell my manager.”
The woman was not able to take her child out of the safety seat, so the baby was not injured, witnesses said. The door of the woman’s car was completely torn off its hinges and thrown on the sidewalk.
“You can still see her flesh on the man’s car,” Hanning said. “He backed up and hit her legs. When we got out there, she was still standing up screaming. We tried to keep her from looking at it.”
Mike Teramano of the Seneca Police Department said the accident is still under investigation.
