Correction
A previous version of this story misquoted Seneca Fire Chief Shane Phillips. Phillips did not say smoke from the fire was "non-toxic." The information was relayed incorrectly from dispatch.
The Seneca Fire Department found itself fighting a roaring fire Wednesday afternoon off North 1st Street.
Gray and black smoke billowed above the heavily wooded area near several local businesses.
Brush trucks and personnel from Corinth-Shiloh, Keowee, Friendship, Crossroads and Westminster units were also dispatched to the scene.
According to Fire Chief Shane Phillips, the fire was under control late Wednesday evening.
Phillips said residents within a 1-mile radius of North 1st Street may see smoke.
