Three things to watch
Clemson has some momentum following one of its finest stretches of the season, as it went 4-1 last week. The Tigers picked up mid-week wins over Furman and No. 21 Coastal Carolina, then took two out of three games from N.C. State in their weekend series.
In the five games last week, senior catcher Doug Hogan belted four home runs and picked up 11 RBI while batting .400. In four games, Stan Widmann batted .500 with three doubles. The junior shortstop was out of the lineup on Sunday afternoon after a 3-of-4 performance Saturday night.
The Tigers have had plenty a load of tight games this season, with 13 of their 21 games being decided by two runs or less. Also, Clemson’s last 12 games have been decided by three runs or less.
Probable Pitchers:
Game 1: TBA
Game 2: TBA
Bottom line: Elon has caused trouble for Clemson over the last decade, as the Tigers hold only a 6-5 advantage in the series’ history, with only one game between the two prior to 2000. Most recently, the teams met in Clemson on April 24, 2007, and the Phoenix took home a 13-12 victory over the Tigers. With that, this game isn’t a lock by any stretch, but Clemson is feeling good right now while playing possibly its best ball of the year.
