WEST UNION — Nearly 150 voters have the opportunity to change the face of West Union’s Town Council on Tuesday.
New council candidates seeking election are Elmer Oliver, Jo Ella White, Dawson Alexander, Ronnie James, Dan Cappelen and Joseph L-Keplar. Only one incumbent council member, Wanda Harden, and Mayor Sharon Nunnery are seeking re-election. Nunnery is unopposed. Council members David Foulke, David Bryant and Ralph Smith did not file for re-election.
The new council will face several challenges, including the 2008-2009 budget, lack of local police coverage, an old school building controversy and another controversy swirling around councilman David Foulke and issues related to his tenure on the council.
Voting is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Volunteer Fire Department on Highway 11.
