Gamecocks’ Young to miss rest of spring

March 29, 2008 - 12:15 a.m. EST

COLUMBIA — The South Carolina football team practiced for a little over two hours on Friday afternoon at the Bluff Road “Proving Grounds” in Columbia. It was the fifth of 15 spring practice sessions for the spring. The squad will have its first scrimmage of the spring this morning at Williams-Brice Stadium. The practice session, which is open to the public, gets under way at 10 a.m. with the scrimmage starting around 10:45 a.m.

“We going to go ones versus ones (on Saturday) and see if the offensive line gets pushed around like they did today or not,” said Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier following Friday's workout. “Maybe they'll take a stand and show a little competitiveness tomorrow. Hopefully we'll have a good competitive scrimmage and nobody gets hurt. Tomorrow will be the first day we're really playing, so we'll see what happens."

Sophomore offensive guard Kevin Young has been lost for the remainder of the spring after re-injuring his shoulder. He is expected to undergo surgery in the near future.
