Tigers' Stanley named All-ACC

May 8, 2008 - 12:15 a.m. EST

CLEMSON — Kyle Stanley has been named to the first-team All-ACC golf team for the second consecutive year. Stanley, the Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year as a freshman, led the Tigers in stroke average during the regular season with a 72.14 figure. He also led the Tigers in top 10 finishes with five, rounds in the 60s with six, and rounds at par or better with 19.

Stanley finished fifth at the Hootie Intercollegiate and fifth at the Furman Invitational for his top finishes this spring season. He was seventh at The Brickyard and seventh at Isleworth during the fall.

The native of Gig Harbor, Wash. will lead the Tigers into the NCAA West Regional next week at the Golf Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. The course is just 20 minutes from his home. Last year Stanley finished third at the NCAA East Regional and second at the NCAA national tournament. It was the highest national finish by a Clemson golfer since Charles Warren finished second in 1998.

Stanley enters the NCAA Tournament as the school's all-time leader in stroke average with a 71.48 figure, just ahead of the 71.49 by D.J. Trahan between 1999-03. Stanley is second in school history in percentage of rounds at par or better and percentage of rounds under par. He has played 60 career rounds and has shot at par or better 40 times, including 31 under par rounds.
