Al and Kathy Davis, along with Jamie and Sherry Preston, hosted their 3rd Annual Bluegrass Benefit at the Davis’ farmhouse named Spider Farm.

The magical bluegrass night originally started when Al’s wife, Kathy successfully went through surgery and beat breast cancer. Al wanted to do something special for her, so he called her favorite band, The John Cowan Band, and asked them if they would do a private party. One Saturday afternoon, John Cowan’s tour bus rolled in the driveway and that evening Kathy was the happiest woman in the world.

Since then, it has become an annual fund-raiser. This week, the group was able to take a check to the Tribble Center in the amount of $2,450.

“I’m not a hero, the bands gave their time to do this,” said Al. His son, Dale, lives at the Tribble Center and Al said the folks at the Tribble Center are also the true heroes.

Many people generously contributed to this worthy cause. Bands such as The John Cowan Band, The New Dixie Storm, Eot Lemac, The Wild Hog Band, The Binge, Carolina Faultline and the Electric City Hillbillies donated their time, as well as Superior Sound who gave back $200 after the evening and ASET Cabinets in Seneca that bought 30 tickets at $20 each and donated another $400.

This year’s benefit had approximately 250 people attend and they hope to continue it every year.

Thanks Pam, Nice article. Just wanted to add a note. The Electric City Hillbillies played a great show and also donated $250 to our cause. Action Septic Tank Service also gave us a much discounted rate on the Porta-potties. Also Brenda Craig's Catering Service fed the masses. We could not have succeeded without all the folks that helped pull this off.
    Thank you,
    al davis
