WALHALLA — The Oconee County Board of Trustees has called a special meeting for noon today, and the first principal for the yet-to-be opened Blue Ridge Elementary School could be named by the time the meeting concludes.
The meeting is scheduled for noon today at the school district headquarters on Pine Street.
Last week, the board was expected to name new principals both at Tamassee-Salem Elementary School and Blue Ridge Elementary School. While the board emerged from executive session at last week’s work session to name Shannon Lusk at Tamassee-Salem, to succeed the retiring Myra Dillard, the board postponed any decision on the Blue Ridge position.
“We are continuing discussions,” Superintendent Mike Lucas said last week, referring to the Blue Ridge Elementary principal position. The superintendent also added that the school board was considering a called meeting to further discuss the matter.
The new school, which is replacing both Code and Kellett Elementary schools, is scheduled to open in August. It will be located on S.C. Highway 59, across the street from Seneca Baptist Church on the property formerly owned by Alan Axson.
When the board meets today, members will go into executive session following a welcome and invocation to discuss personnel items as well as a legal issue. They will return in open session, where the announcement, as expected, would come.
Once the board addresses any issues during open session, they will then adjourn the meeting.
