CLEMSON — The Clemson Food Lion store celebrated homecoming with Clemson University students by announcing the grand prize winners of a recent Clemson car giveaway promotion.

Freshman Carly Summers, an environmental and natural resources major from Pennsylvania, was the grand prize winner. She drove away in the white, 2008 Mazda 3-series sedan. The second-prize, a $500 Food Lion gift certificate, was awarded to Derek Weiand.

“We had a great time with the students and community and enjoyed providing the chance for them to win the car and other prizes,” said Todd Elledge, Food Lion divisional marketing manager. “We celebrated with Carly and all Clemson students, alumni and fans during homecoming weekend and look forward to providing quality and value for everyone’s tailgating needs.”

At the Clemson University Welcome Back Festival in mid-August, Food Lion kicked off a six-week promotion encouraging students to shop at their store. Each time they shopped with their MVP Extra cards, they were entered for another chance to win the car. Additionally, weekly $25 gift card winners were selected. Those winners were Srikanth Vanama, Yueli Zheng, Sandeep Kumar, Zachary Haddan, Katie Goergen, and Yisha Wang.

The Clemson Food Lion store offers more than 28,000 different products and several different departments such as: produce department, meat department, deli-bakery and Nature’s Place, which features natural and organic products to accommodate shoppers’ dietary concerns and preferences. The new Food Lion features convenient services like a floral section, Coinstar machine, Western Union service, carpet cleaner rentals and a propane tank exchange.

The Clemson Food Lion store’s design is also unique to Clemson. There is a “Go Tigers!” sign that reflects Food Lion’s support of neighboring Clemson University, and stone replicas of Clemson’s Tillman Hall are also featured on the building’s façade.
