SWU's Wolfe takes home pair of honors

CENTRAL — Kaitlin Wolfe, a sophomore from Rothschild, Wis., has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week and the Beef O’Brady’s Student-Athlete of the Week at Southern Wesleyan University.

The setter had a solid all-around week in helping lead the Warriors to a 3-0 record, which included a dramatic 3-2 (25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23) victory over Faulkner University last Friday night. During the week, Wolfe averaged 9.5 assists per set in the 11 sets she played as setter. In addition to her assists, Wolfe contributed 20 kills, two service aces, 37 digs, and seven blocks in the three victories. In the match against Faulkner, Wolfe just missed a triple double when she had 46 assists, 13 digs, and nine kills. For the season, Wolfe ranks third in the SSAC in assists, averaging 7.6 per set.

The Warriors will play twice this week, hosting Newberry College on Tuesday and then Lee University on Thursday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Thursday’s match features the second annual “Dig For the Cure” night where the volleyball program is raising money to support Susan G. Komen For the Cure and their fight against breast cancer. T-shirts can be purchased and donations will be accepted during the match on Thursday.
