Willie says:

Willie has heard a few more times from the woman whose family is being harassed over the phone by some mentally “sick” people. Here’s a tip I received. Go to reversephonedetective.com and put in the number. It will cost 14.95, but it will give you the

owner's name and all the information you need to report them to the authorities.

Willie says:

I bunkered up with the folks at the newspaper for a couple of hours the other day and all we talked about was these fire issues that people keep bringing to me. The paper just did a big expose, last Saturday and the conclusion reached is that people need to start taking real issues to the county’s safety committee — chaired by Mr. Blanchard — or to Mr. Surrett, Mr. Burdette’s boss. Writing to Willie fuels the fires; it doesn’t save the system. If enough people ask the decision makers for change then maybe there will be change. When they ask and change happens, my friends at the paper promise to be there and report it. Also, Editor Brett McLaughlin said he is always happy to answer phone calls from people who have real information to offer and don’t mind identifying themselves.

Willie,

Sometimes I see my neighbors and their friends mistreating their dog on their property. The dog is not aggressive, and my husband and neighbors have also witnessed the same behavior. A neighbor also stated that they saw one of these people kick a cat off the front porch. What can I do and what is the punishment for animal cruelty? Do I need to document everything or is it just going to be my word against theirs if the other neighbors don’t want to file a complaint?

Willie says:

Please call Oconee County Animal Shelter at (864) 638-8798, 321 Camp Road, Walhalla SC 29591. They can investigate and dispatch animal control officers from the Sheriff's Department. When the animal shelter is moved to 1925 Sandifer Blvd. in Seneca, they will have a new telephone number then. For further information, go to

http://www.oconeelaw.com/inside/animalcontrol.php

Willie,

That county or state van that runs at a high speed up Hwy. 28 has just been pulled over on 28 near Halfway Branch, so whoever called you about that, they have that lady pulled over.

Willie says:

Here’s hoping she learns to abide by the laws from now on!

Willie,

I attended the Sheep Farm Road viewing of proposed plans for the project and noticed that the maps have no dedicated right turn lanes at intersections. Every DOT employee I spoke with was clueless as to why the lanes aren’t included in the project, at least not included yet. Willie, who’s the genius that designs the roads in the state? Look at Radio Station Road and Hwy. 123. Why in the world didn’t they widen it enough to allow cars to have a dedicated right turn lane to turn right on Hwy. 123 and not have to wait for the long traffic signal? It would great if the state builds the new project correctly the first time and not have to come back in the future and redo what should have been obvious in the first place. But then again, these are the experts that designed and approved the intersection in front of Wal-Mart!

Willie says:

So you’ve spent weeks of your life in the Wal-Mart “no turn” lane too? Willie’s glad he’s not alone. What I was able to learn was that it’s not too late. If enough people raised that issue as a result of the meeting, it might get changed. Willie was also told that it could have something to do with having enough room in a couple of places and getting right of ways in other places. Sounds a little iffy to me, but maybe someone will see the light before they get it all done and hang a bow on it.

Willie,

I love reading your column and all the comments! What has happened with the issue of Oconee County over charging $72 million since Norton took it to Columbia?

And

Willie,

I can’t believe that our tax notices are coming out again without any explanation of what has happened to the money that is missing from our big headquarters in Walhalla. So, if you could get some answers for me, I’d appreciate it.

Willie says:

It wasn’t (attorney Brad) Norton who took it to Columbia, it was Treasurer Greg Nowell. Then, after the fact, the county jumped in and said they would like to have someone come and look also since they don’t feel they did anything wrong. All Willie knows is what he reads: The revenuers came, they collected data, they went back to Columbia, they asked for some more data, they are analyzing it and they will issue a report sometime. Rumor has it, it might be as early as this week or as late as Christmas. It’s the government, you know?

Willie,

As a parent of a female student at Clemson University, I’m outraged at how Clemson allowed McDaniel, the girlfriend beater, to play and represent CU and have him on the same campus. The only satisfaction I got out of watching the Alabama game was to see how tough he was when he played against somebody that could hit back.

Willie says:

You know what? I’ve heard that from others. In fact, I’ve heard exactly those same words from several others. Who had the bright idea to send a blanket e-mail and then try and make old Willie think it was an original thought. Willie wasn’t born yesterday. (Wow, that’s an understatement!)

Willie,

Randy, you stirred some conversation. All the Mexicans in Walhalla move to Westminster. I am sure the economy will grow in Westminster, and you will be welcomed. Aliens have always come to the U.S. illegally and will continue until this country collapses and some other country offers something better. Do you think since the 1700s everybody that has come into this country came in the front and back door and was handed papers for citizenship? If they were, they used it for more purposeful use in the outhouse. If Germany had more of what we have, there would be a mass exodus from the U.S. Randy needs to welcome these Mexicans into Walhalla and set up programs to get their citizenships or green cards. Ask Gresham Barrett for that kind of help instead of deporting. The next Albert Einstein, Santana, Alex Trebek, Michael J. Fox or Arnold Schwarzenegger may be enrolled in James Brown Elementary School at the present. Randy, work and see the positive side of this because you are not to get them out of the U.S.

Willie says:

Yet another voice heard from. I just can’t figure out why Congress can’t solve this problem since so many folks in the Upstate can.

Willie,

I saw in the paper where the sheriff was honored with naming a road after him. He has done a lot for Oconee. Why didn’t they let them rename the road in front of OLEC after him? He has done a lot for me and my family and many other citizens here in Oconee.

Willie says:

That’s a city street for one thing and maybe he was holding out for a longer road.

Willie,

I thought Mike Holmes had left the sheriff’s department due to health reasons? Is he still there?

Willie says:

Call him and ask him. It’s none of Willie’s business.

Willie,

I would like to know what I can do about some pitiful cattle on Rimrod Road. They don’t ever get any water. Could you tell me what I can do? Somebody really needs to check in on this.

Willie says:

Call animal control director Jerry Zimmerman at (864) 638-8798.

Willie,

Candidates for public office will expect all of us to obey the laws and ordinances they pass if elected. They need to obey the law themselves. Several days ago, I passed by the business of one candidate, as his/her work crew was leaving for the day. I saw a work crew that immigration agents would probably have a field day with. Here’s my request: Every candidate for office in Oconee and Pickens Counties, who is also an employer, should guarantee, publicly, before the election, that his/her workforce is verified through E-Verify to be in this country legally. It’s not too much to ask that the people who expect us to obey the law also do the same, is it? How about it candidates? How about that guarantee before we vote? If we don’t get that E-Verify guarantee, I think we’ll assume we have our answer.

Willie says:

‘Sounds good to me. Making employers responsible for seeing that their workers are legal and insisting that citizenship be verified to get public assistance are the best ways to get this situation under control.

Willie,

I think people should vote for whomever they see fit, but they should also know the facts. I want to provide some math so people know a bit more. When talking about taxes, the Obama and McCain plans are clear enough that people can actually follow them if you look. If you make under $50,000, you will have twice as much of a tax cut under Obama than McCain. If you make anything below $112,000, Obama’s tax cut is still greater than McCain’s. After that, the reverse is true as McCain’s plan starts to work out best for you. If you make $4 million a year, then you have a million reasons to vote for McCain because that’s how much more money you’ll get back. I know people sometimes say they vote with their pocketbooks, so I thought I’d let people know the math on how it works out. It’s not spin at all, it’s just applying the numbers. So, Willie, I’m sure that means you’ll need to vote for McCain, what with your multi-million dollar salary you must be getting! Just kidding you, guy!

Willie says:

You better be kidding!! If Willie voted his pocketbook about the only thing that would get elected are moths.

In answer to the one with the convoluted mathematics. I don’t know where you learned math but you must have been asleep in class. Nobama wants to tax the rich and corporations. This will make it harder for employers to expand their companies and employ more people during these times of high unemployment. This will also indirectly tax the low and middle classes. Why? Because corporations don’t pay taxes, they pass the tax on to the customer in the form of increased prices for their product or services. In these present times, which were caused by the Congressional Democrats in cahoots with Fannie, Freddie and ACORN and Wall Street greed, raising taxes would further devastate our economy and our people. How in blazes do you think Nobama plans to pay for the increase in government programs that he has already admitted to?

On the other hand McCain wants to decrease taxes where and if he can which is by far the best way to help people get back on their feet and help the country out of this recession. For goodness sake get your head out of the sand and you do the math.

I am not racist, I just feel they need to obey the law and come into our country legally and we have a right to know who is in our country. Criminal background and health background. And they should be able to pay their own medical expense (not use our emergency room as their form of health care) and pay for their children’s education!!

Openup, you might be right. The American people might just be stupid enough to vote Nobama into the Oval Office. After all they were stupid enough to put Carter in office and also to disregard Slick turning the Oval Office into a nookey parlor. If this clown is what the liberals want and they get out the vote he will be elected. This great nation has suffered worse times under worse people and we survived. I am afraid though that Nobama’s ineptitude will prolong this recession as FDR’s foolishness prolonged the depression of 1929.

Openup, what part of your delusions of NObamas grandeur makes you think that he is the savior of our country. Furthermore, what makes you think congress will work with him any more than they have worked with any other president. I think we all need to wake up and realize that we are in for a world of hurt either way. Especially if "THAT ONE" gets the nod. Is it confirmed or hearsay that he was sworn into office on the kuran? I'm just asking the question not starting a new thread, curiosity you know.
And who really expected him to lose a debate? The man is trained to persuade his point no matter the situation, he's an attorney. You know, if you can't dazzle with brilliance, baffle with bullspit!

Hay somethingstinks you are right, something does stink or rotten in Denmark or Skunk in the cider, oh you get my meaning. ACORN in cahoots with Fannie and Freddie is that outfit that talked low-income people into affordable housing that they could not afford. Those are the bad loans that you are now buying with your tax money, courtesy of the Democrats in Congress. What scares me is that the Democratic Congress WILL work with Nobama and will pass legislation that will again send this nation spiraling toward socialism. I had heard that he was sworn in on the Koran but I am not sure. Yes Nobama is a good talker, so was Jim Jones the self-proclaimed messiah who talked his followers into committing mass suicide.

Could this be a campaign tactic by Greg Nowell to use in order to get votes? Where was Nowell when some of us were contesting the issue back in 2006? Doesn't Nowell own property in the county and shouldn't he have been concerned? Where was Nowell when the Council voted on a Supplemental Budget to make this extra money legal in the budget? Where was Nowell when Council and the School Board were budgeting this extra money in 2007 and 2008 when he was treasurer? If Nowell knew there was already too much money in the treasurer than the amount budgeted, why did he send it on to the Council and the School District for them to spend the surplus? If Nowell didn't know how much surplus he had on hand, shouldn't he have known? Nowell did not step forward and complained until after he found that he was going to have competition for the Treasurer's office, and after he found out that his inattention to the matter might be a campaign issue.

Where do you NObama FANATICS find accusation? My question required a simple yes/no answer. What the hell was the tangent you guys went off on!?!?

Hay stinks, I said earlier that I had heard that Nobama swore the oath of office on the Koran. I really don’t know. It is plausible and possible but at the time nobody really paid much attention to the little tinhorn freshman Senator. If Nobama did swear on the Koran, the liberals who contribute to this column are ashamed to tell us. When you ask a civil question and get an answer like “do your own research, stinks” maybe they are trying to hide something. Actually though, what difference does it make? If we the people are stupid enough to put Nobama in office we deserve all the hardship we get. I remember 6 months after Carter was voted in as president, people were so fed up with him I couldn’t find anyone who admitted voting for him.

Actually CT, my decision is made. I WILL NOT vote for NObama. Oddly my problem with Nobama is not even NObama, it's his fanatical supporters that go into attack mode every time a question is asked. The question now is who I can vote for. Maybe I'll write in Lieberman, or Paul, or Huckabee.
Interesting tidbit: according to the wikipedia bio of Obama, he has traced his ancestry back to Jefferson Davis, the president of the confederacy. So maybe he has some presidential potential. Maybe not.

I am not ignorant, nor have I gone off on a tangent. Some people just don't want to hear anyone's opinion except their own. I commented on a comment, that I happened to disagree with. PERIOD. If you disagree, I do not care. You have that right. PERIOD. I did not say that NObama wasn't a Christian, either. Only God knows that, but as a Christian, I must vote as God leads me, not based on human research that may or may not be misguided.

Is it confirmed, or hearsay, that Sarah Palin had an affair with her husband's business partner?

I'm not saying she had an affair. I'm just asking. I really don't know if she had an affari. It has been reported in the National Enquirer that she had an affair with husband Todd's former business partner, Brad Hanson, and Hanson attempted to have the divorce records sealed and the National Enquirer is researching it all, and they were right about John Edwards, so maybe they're not too far from the truth about Sarah Palin's extra-marital activities.

But I'm not accusing her of anything. I mean, it is plausible and possible, but who paid much attention to a tinhorn governor of an obscure state with less than a million people until she was picked to be the Republican vice-presidential candidate.

I am proud to say that I am part of Obama's elitist list of people of faith who keep firearms, and some of his latest remarks displease me. We rednecks cling to our guns and our religion when we get frustrated, and God must love the common people because He made so many of them. I chose to know the common people and will not let his condescending remarks slide. The common people do matter & the rich liberals, baby killing crowd may think that we are stupid, but we are not. He doesn't respect the largest portion of our Armed Forces(the common), and so how can he make a good Commander in Chief? His statements are very concise and haven't been taken out of context as he wishes us to believe. I cannot fathom another President tearing apart our military, and I will gather my weapons and continue to go to Church and pray for our nation.

Hay stinks and odj, I think O’Reilly of FOX news has the right idea. Elect McCain as president and convince him to appoint Juiliani as attorney general. Juiliani’s first priority would be to prosecute all of the congressmen such as Dodd, Obama, Frank and others and all of the corporate heads and probably most of the ACORN people for various crimes against the American people. Conviction should bring the forfeiture of all monies obtained through defrauding the American people plus long prison terms.

Hay stinks and odj, have you been hearing on the news lately about the ACORN people generating thousands of bogus voter registrations in Ohio and elsewhere? That would be another reason to prosecute and imprison the offenders. BUT, they are guilty of generating fraudulent voter records in a federal election. The first step should be to void all early voting in the state of Ohio and anywhere else it is being done. The states can do what they want in state elections but the federal election should be held on voting day in November, under the tightest of controls. You know that all of these fraudulent voters are Obama people and it is being done with his knowledge and blessing. It is one thing to win or lose an election fair and square but to lose to a cheat who can’t win honestly demeans the whole system. And this is the clown that might become our next president? Great horneytoads!

And I am not trying to be funny or hateful or whatever, I have asked this question to many democrats and all they can say is "change" or not wanting a "3rd term of Bush". Hey Ken, check out these stats.

[edit] ACORN Employees and Allegations of Voter Registration Fraud
In some locations, ACORN employees have submitted false voter registration forms rather than obtaining registrations from actual eligible voters.

In Ohio in 2004, four ACORN employees were indicted by a federal grand jury for submitting false voter registration forms.[23][24]
In January 2005 two Colorado ACORN workers were sentenced to community service for submitting false voter registrations.[25] ACORN's regional director said, "we find it abhorrent and do everything we can to prevent it from happening."[26]
On November 1, 2006, four part-time ACORN employees were indicted in Kansas City, Missouri for voter registration fraud. Prosecutors said the indictments are part of a national investigation.[27] ACORN said in a press release that it is in part responsible in these individuals being caught, has fired them, and has cooperated and publicly supported efforts to look into the validity of the allegations.[28]
ACORN was investigated in 2006 for submitting false voter registrations in St. Louis, Missouri. 1,492 fraudulent voter registrations were identified.[29][30]
In 2007, five Washington state ACORN workers were sentenced to jail time.[31] ACORN agreed to pay King County $25 000 for its investigative costs and acknowledged that the national organization could be subject to criminal prosecution if fraud occurs again. According to King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg, the misconduct was done "as an easy way to get paid [by ACORN], not as an attempt to influence the outcome of elections."[32][33]
In 2008, the Michigan Secretary of State office told the Detroit Free Press that ACORN had been submitting a sizeable number of duplicate and fraudulent applications to vote.[34]
State authorities in Nevada raided ACORN's offices in Las Vegas in 2008, alleging that its canvassers produced forms with false names, fictional addresses, or famous personalities. Neither ACORN nor any employees, however, have been charged with fraud or other crimes.[35][36]
October 8, 2008, Missouri officials announced an investigation into alleged voter fraud concerning some ACORN registered names. Some names were listed multiple times, had fake/missing addresses, no drivers licenses, bad social security numbers, etc. [37]

Thanks for the welcome something. Good work on ACORN. It was stated on the news this morning that even though they told us they took out that funding in the bailout, they really didn't (surprise, surprise)- it is not listed as ACORN $20 million or whatever - but to various other groups that are a front for ACORN, but now that all of this is hitting the fan, a group of Senators have sent a letter (and I am sorry I can't remember who to) stating they want NO money to go to the groups named in the Bailout who in turn gives it to ACORN - so there you have it. No wonder congress has the lowest approval rating in I don't know how long.
