CLEMSON Clemson University police received reports at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday of gunshot sounds in Thornhill Village, a residential apartment area of Clemson’s campus. Police were on the scene within minutes to assess the situation. The safety alert communication systems, including siren, text and campus e-mail, were activated, advising faculty, staff and students to avoid the area and shelter in place.
An "all clear" message was issued at 3:22 p.m.
The situation is still under investigation, but indications are that plastic bottles containing a mix of chemicals exploded in the area where the sounds were heard.
The police canvassed the area, checking every apartment. They found no one with injuries. CUPD is continuing to investigate the incident to identify the people responsible.
