Sponsors Needed

We are often asked about special needs we have for our children. At this time there are two immediate needs. First, our children are very excited about the Upward Basketball program starting up again this winter. Most of you will remember some of the funny stories from last year about the younger ones learning how to bounce a ball. We have 12 children who are eligible to play this year and could definitely use your help sponsoring them. The multiple children discount is $45 per child to register for basketball. This is your opportunity to help with a specific need that will give our children memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Secondly, Christmas is going to be here before we know it, so we need your help with making wishes come true for our children. Each year our children are sponsored by individuals, church groups and business employees in the community. Each child completes a wish list to make it easier for shoppers. You can help by shopping for a child or donating $200 to Collins Home so our staff can purchase gifts. If you are able to help with either of these needs please call Kaye at (864) 882-0893

Camping Trip

The children were out of school Monday and Tuesday so the Roxie Anna home enjoyed the long weekend break camping at a local campground. The kids ran the houseparents in circles figuratively and literally while riding their bikes, scooters and toys around the paved loops. Imagine trying to keep up with seven children that are all going in different directions! The children entertained themselves most of the weekend with a wooded area they discovered and quickly claimed as their “club house.” It was just far enough from the campsite for the kids to feel like it was their very own place. It was fun to watch them use their imaginations as they climbed trees and used logs to build their clubhouse. They ended each night sitting around the campfire talking and roasting marshmallows. It can be a lot of hard work planning a camping trip, but when we know the kids have had a great time it is well worth it.

Benton Village Treat

Thanks to Benton Village for inviting our kids to Trick-or-Treat with their residents. The kids had a great time receiving candy, playing games and meeting the staff and residents. We appreciate being remembered by these special friends.

Return Baptist Church Fall Festival

Return Baptist Church hosted their Fall Festival last Sunday evening. The kids had a blast playing on the inflatable slides and bouncers. The church members treated everyone to a barbecue dinner with popcorn and snow cones for dessert. The kids enjoyed the pet area where they were allowed to feed animals like rabbits, ducks, goats and a pony. A few of the girls could not get over the size of one of the goats and kept looking at it in amazement. After the hayride around the church property they left with full bags of candy from the trunk or treat and full tummies from the delicious food. Everyone had a great time, and we hope we are invited again next year.

More Ways to Help

Did you know that you can help raise money for Collins Home just by purchasing groceries? We are participating in BI-LO's boostersplus program again this year. You can help us earn money simply by shopping at any BI-LO with your BONUSCARD. Enrolling is easy! Pick up an enrollment scan form from our office and give it to the cashier the next time you shop. Each time you use your BONUS CARD, one percent of your purchase amount will be credited to Collins Home. By signing up, you'll help us raise money for the things our children need! Another great way to help is by purchasing a Belk Charity Day ticket from us. We keep the proceeds from the ticket sales, and you get a great day of shopping at their special sale to benefit charities on Nov. 15, plus a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree. You can purchase tickets at our office for $5 each or call me at (864) 882-0893 and I will have tickets delivered to your home or office.
