WALHALLA — When it came to the Walhalla High School volleyball team last season, it was hard to ever get a beat on how the Razorbacks would perform whenever they stepped on the court, as it was a seemingly endless rollercoaster ride for the squad.

But if Wednesday’s season-opening match was any indicator for Walhalla, it looks like the rollercoaster ride may have come to a hault, as it swept its match 3-0 over Seneca in Walhalla by final scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22.

Walhalla head coach Anna Bess Morrison said her team’s first showing of the season was especially encouraging since it was the first real match of the year, as their preseason scrimmage last Tuesday against Westside was cancelled due to the severe weather outbreak that hit the area.

But more than anything, it was the consistency Walhalla showed in Wednesday’s win that thrilled her the most.

“That’s something we’ve been working on for this season, just being consistent,” Morrison said. “If we make a few mistakes, we have to forget and just keep playing, so they did awesome tonight and I was really impressed with them.

“This is a good starting point, but we have to keep it here.”

The Razorbacks (1-0) thrived off their aggressive serving, as Ashlee Smith and Mackenzie Fowler finished the night with six aces each. Tish Winchester added four aces in her first game with the varsity team, including the match-winner, while Hannah Garcia added three.

Seneca (1-1) nearly forced a fourth game as it pulled within a point at 23-22 during the third game following a powerful kill by Donna Weinacker, but couldn’t generate any long possessions following a solid win at home against Pendleton on Tuesday evening.

The Razorbacks will travel to West-Oak tonight, while Seneca will be off again until Monday when it hosts Liberty at 6:30 p.m.

Congratulations Lady Razorbacks! You played a very exciting match against a tough opponent. Let's not forget to mention that Walhalla's JV team also swept Seneca 3-0. Keep up the great work ladies!!
