Editor,
Let's forget about the gender here and imagine Palin was a man running for VP. Would you vote for a man who doesn't believe global warming is caused by man, wants to teach abstinence-only sex ed, "doesn't give much thought to the war on Iraq," had their gubernatorial inauguration paid for by big Big Oil, wants to teach creationism in schools, and tried to ban books from the library? Would you nominate the mayor of your small town for U.S. President?
This is not a high school popularity contest. The stakes are too high. We should not lock someone out of the office of president just because they are a charismatic, nice-looking woman, and we certainly should not elect someone into office just because they are. I want to see a woman in the White House, but I'm not so anxious to see that happen that I'll elect someone who is against nearly everything I believe in.
If you want more war, more help for big oil, the repeal of Roe v Wade, the banning of books, a deaf ear turned to the environmental crisis, more earmarks and bridges to nowhere while our real bridges fall into rivers, then Palin is your man.

Well, Ms. Carla, you certainly have vented your spleen on this one. Every one of your complaints is based upon a lie, or half truth, or innuendo. You are right in goosestep with the rest of the liberals in the Democratic Party. You just can’t stand the idea that conservative Governor Palin, a woman of moral character, will be elected vice president. For the last few days you liberals have been reaching down in the bottom of your pathetic bag of dirty tricks to find ways of slandering Governor Palin, because that is all you got left. Goodness sake, wake up, get a life.

Lets take your points one at a time:
1. Global warming. The cause of global warming has not yet been proven to be caused by man. While man may be contributing to global warming, a large group of prominant scientests believe the major cause is from naturally occuring events.
2. Sex-ed. Sarah Palin does not advocate abstinence only sex education. She is against abortion.
3. I have no doubt that if elected, Sarah will most definitely give the war in Iraq some thought and believe she probably does so now, especially in view of the fact that her son is being deployed there this month.
4. Big oil. Sarah Palin took on not only the corruption in Alaska state government by having many of the "good ole boys" removed (both Democratic and Republican) but took on the oil companies operating there. The result has been a major boost in royalties that Alaska receives from oil produced in Alaska, creating a very substantial state budget surplus.
5. I don't believe either creationism or evolution should be the sole subject taught in schools but that both should be taught. I believe in providing both sides of an argument and letting the individual make up their own mind.
6. Banning library books. I challenge you to prove that Sarah Palin tried to have or did have books banned from a library. I think you've been reading too many blogs, where people can state anything without proof.
Sarah Palin is not running against Barak Obama but against Joe Biden, a Senator that has been immersed in good ole boy politics for decades; however, her executive, decision-making experience rivals both. Neither Obama nor Biden have served in a position of "The buck stops here". Yes, I would elect a small town mayor, someone akin to a "small town judge" and 2 term senator who became President of the U.S. -- Harry S. Truman.

Sarah Palin is more woman than Carla Ulbrich can ever hope to be. Carla must be scared. Go Sarah, keep stepping on those toes.

Ms. Ulbrich, you are completly out of touch with what has taken place. You us a hypothetical thought in your first paragraph "Let's forget about the gender here and imagine Palin was a man,".....face the facts, you're a dreamer and a fantizer. You can't change what has taken place so I would suggest, don't make a fool of yourself any longer with your imagination.

Eddo, you beat me to it. I was chomping at the bit to set the record straight while I read this drivel. Oh, and by the way MS. Ulbrich, Sarah Palin was a huge force in keeping the "bridge to nowhere" from coming to pass.
The start of your 2nd paragraph is so true, and you need to think about that statement when you consider your, obviously, candidate. It is NOT a popularity contest.
I looked at her record in government, and I really liked what I read. She has done more for her state in the few years she's been involved than anyone in DC has even tried to do. She couldn't possibly be farther removed from the beltway crowd, and that's what this country desperatly needs right now.

And if Sarah Palin was a man, she wouldn't have been asked how she could be a new parent and a Vice-President. No one asked Obama how he could be a state senator and a new father at the same time, and they were right not to. The news media ripped Palin apart for returning to work after becoming a new parent, and again when they blanketed the evening news with the reports of her pregnant teenage daughter. Again, if Palin was a man, neither issue would have made a blip on the news radar screen. Of the four candidates running (major parties) for president and vice president, I like Palin more than the other three combined.

The statement about "a small town mayor", Ms Carla forgot to mention that Gov Palin is now the govenor of one of the largest states, oversees the Dept of Revenue and is the Commander of the Nation Guard in Alaska.
Compare this to the "Community Organizer" with NO responsibilities to anyone, no payroll to manage, and association with corrupt ties and know terrorist.

Looks like Ms. Carla stepped in it this time. She needs to wear higher boots when spreading lies about a woman of such high character.

I pray that our country never gets attacked again. I would rather have the WOMAN in high heels representing me than Carla who will be singing Kumba Ya or however that is spelled. It takes a tougher woman to keep and raise a child with downs symdrome than a woman who would rather take the easy way and throw unperfect baby at least in Carla's eyes, in a pale to be taken out with the local trash.

Truthandjustice, it seems that we all must try to educate liberals. Even God had to contend with liberals. “A wise man's heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish man's heart directs him toward the left” (Ecclesiastes 10:2).

I wonder if Ms. Ulbrich would have the same misgivings if Obama had selected Hillary Clinton as his running mate? It could be argued that Palin has as much (and maybe more) political experience as a governor as Mrs. Clinton has as a senator. It's pretty obvious that Ms. Ulbrich is torn between her strong desire to finally see a woman in such a high office and her equally strong political leanings.

o please, she was not a huge force in keeping the "bridge to nowhere" from coming to pass. she supported the entire project when she was running for governor. only after Congress brought the truth out did she begin to not support it. and she kept the $200,000,000 that she was given for it to use for something else.
excellent editorial by the way.
