Chelsea Taylor has been selected as the Seneca High School / Ralph’s Trophy Shop Student Athlete of the Month for August.

Gary and Susan Taylor moved their two children, Geoff and Chelsea, to the Seneca area several years ago in order to provide them more opportunities and access to sporting activities. Geoff, 21, ran track for Clemson University and is currently studying abroad in Italy through Clemson. Chelsea, a senior at Seneca High School, has also excelled in track and field, as well as volleyball.

Academically, Chelsea is ranked in the top 25 percent of her class and is very involved in student activities and organizations. She is in Student Government, Teens Against Tobacco Use, Cats for Christ, Tri-M Music Honor Society and Honors Chorale. Chelsea enjoys singing the National Anthem for Clemson baseball games. Outside of school, she spends time with family and friends, volunteers at her neighborhood fitness center and is involved in Wings for the Lord at St. Mark Methodist Church. She wants to work with children in the future and is considering careers in education, physical therapy or sports medicine.

Chelsea is a member of the Seneca volleyball team.

“Chelsea is a senior right side and outside hitter for the varsity volleyball team,” said Seneca head volleyball coach Megan McCarty. “She is an excellent leader on the court and in the classroom. Her hard work and persistence is second to none, and she is one of the most positive, encouraging teammates I have ever seen. Chelsea sets a great example for many athletes through her work ethic, attitude, encouragement and responsibility. I never see Chelsea without a smile on her face, even in the midst of fierce competition and personal struggle.”

Chelsea is the reigning AAA state champion in pole vaulting. She has won the past two state titles in that event. She has participated in three Junior Olympics and made it to Nationals in Nebraska.

Chelsea looks forward to the opportunities pole vaulting has to offer her at the college level, hopefully at Clemson, Georgia or USC. She wants people to know that pole vaulting is very important to her, and she appreciates the challenges and experience it is has afforded her. She enjoys traveling to the different track events and meeting different people.

Her success on and off the field are what make her the Seneca High School / Ralph’s Trophy Shop Student Athlete of the Month.
