Tiger Spirits, a liquor store located at 363 Tiger Blvd., on U.S. 123 near the Highway 93 ramp, was gutted by a blaze Wednesday afternoon. The family inside the living quarters attached to the building was able to flee the burning structure while Clemson and Central Fire Departments responded.
CLEMSON A family-owned liquor store was destroyed Wednesday afternoon when fire ripped through it and collapsed its roof.
Tiger Spirits, 363 Tiger Blvd., on U.S. 123, near the Highway 93 ramp, was reported to be on fire at roughly 1:30 p.m. The family inside the living quarters attached to the building was able to flee the burning structure as Clemson police and fire and Central firefighters arrived on scene.
“The family was pulled out of the structure and they were okay,” Police Chief Jimmy Dixon said, adding that they were checked out by EMS personnel. “They were okay. The EMS stayed on scene as part of standard procedures for fires like this.”
Duke Energy trucks were also at the scene to cut off power to the building, as multiple fire trucks poured torrents of water into the structure.
Dixon said there was no word yet as to the cause of the fire, but said there were no injuries resulting from the blaze, which was fueled by the alcoholic contents of the store.
Law enforcement blocked off the stretch of 123 between highways 76 and 93, and firefighters labored amid intense heat from the fire and the high August temperatures. Smoke billowing from the business was visible for miles.

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.
Have compassion for all beings, rich and poor alike; each has their suffering. Some suffer too much, others too little.
He who experiences the unity of life sees his own self in all beings, and all beings in his own self, and looks on everything with an impartial eye.
Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill.
