The South Carolina Botanical Garden will feature the works of William Jameson in the Fran Hanson Discovery Center Gallery. Jameson’s paintings of landscapes in Upstate South Carolina and the mountains of North Carolina are on display daily through January 2009.

The Work of Elizabeth Belser Fuller is a permanent exhibit of watercolors, acrylics and mixed media works by native South Carolinian and special friend of the garden and is at the Fran Hanson Discovery Center Gallery. Monday to Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m.

MUSEUMS

Ashtabula (c 1825) and Woodburn (c 1830) Museum Homes are open for guided tours by appointment. Call (864) 646-7249 or (864) 207-0705 at least 24 hours in advance. Admission prices for appointment tours are: adults, $6, children ages 5-10 , $2 or $24 whichever is greater. Ashtabula will also have regular open hours during the holiday season: Dec. 20-30, 1-4 p.m. No tours will be given on Dec. 24, 25 or 31. Admission during regular open hours is adults, $6 and children ages 5-10, $2. Ashtabula is located on Hwy. 88, 3 miles east of downtown Pendleton. Woodburn is located on Hwy. 76, across from Tri-County Tech College.

Central History Museum & Gardens is open on Sundays from 2-4 p.m. with the garden open from dusk to dawn. Admission: $2 adults, $1 children. The house museum built in 1893 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places is at 416 Church St. in Central. It has a railroad model of Central in the ’30s. Volunteers are needed in the gardens.

Biltmore Estate

The Biltmore is open daily from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. It is located on Highway 25 in Asheville, N.C., north of I-40 exit 50 or 50 B. Call (877) 324-5866.

The entrance gates to Historic Old Pickens Church and Cemeteries will be open to the public all winter from sunrise to sunset — located on S. C. Route 183 just past the employee entrance to Duke Energy. Look for the white sign. Please sign the guest book in the mailbox.

Rose Hill Plantation Historic Site is open Thurs.-Mon. from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and the mansion is open for tours from 1-4 p.m. on Sardis Road eight miles south of Union in Union County. Call (864) 427-5966.

The Lunney House Museum, 211 W.S. First St. in Seneca, is open Thurs.-Sun., 1-5 p.m. or by appointment. (864) 882-4811 Free. This 1909 California-style Arts & Crafts bungalow is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the SC Heritage Corridor and contains Oconee county memorabilia, curiosities and a mixture of mission and Victorian furnishings. MISCELLANEOUS

The Oconee Heritage Center will hold “Movie Night at the Museum.” Each month, on the third Saturday, the OHC will be showing a classic old movie with free admission. The classroom at the OHC is soon to be upgraded with a large screen and projector along with surround sound. Each month, the featured movie will be prefaced with a short presentation of the historical events portrayed in the movie. Each month, the movies will be posted on the museum’s Web site. Everyone is welcome and free popcorn will be provided. Classroom seating will be provided, but everyone is welcome to bring a comfortable chair.
