ART

The South Carolina Botanical Garden will feature the works of William Jameson in the Fran Hanson Discovery Center Gallery. Jameson’s paintings of landscapes in Upstate South Carolina and the mountains of North Carolina are on display daily through January 2009.

The Work of Elizabeth Belser Fuller is a permanent exhibit of watercolors, acrylics and mixed media works by native South Carolinian and special friend of the garden and is at the Fran Hanson Discovery Center Gallery. Monday to Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m.

The Market at Keowee Towne — The Blue Ridge Arts Council is featuring a different artist each month at the Cafe. For purchase call (864) 882-2722.

FAMILY FARE

The South Carolina Botanical Garden Discovery Center and Garden Gift hours of operation are: Fran Hanson Discovery Center and Garden Gift Shop is open Mon.-Sat. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Campbell Geology Museum is open Wed.-Sat. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun. 1-5 p.m. $3 adults, $2 children 12 and under. MUSEUMS

Ashtabula (c 1825) and Woodburn (c 1830) Museum Homes are open for guided tours by appointment. Call (864) 646-7249 or (864) 207-0705 at least 24 hours in advance. Admission prices for appointment tours are: adults, $6, children ages 5-10 , $2 or $24 whichever is greater. Ashtabula will also have regular open hours during the holiday season: Dec. 20-30, 1-4 p.m. No tours will be given on Dec. 24, 25 or 31. Admission during regular open hours is adults, $6 and children ages 5-10, $2. Ashtabula is located on Hwy. 88, 3 miles east of downtown Pendleton. Woodburn is located on Hwy. 76, across from Tri-County Tech College.

Central History Museum & Gardens is open on Sundays from 2-4 p.m. with the garden open from dusk to dawn. Admission: $2 adults, $1 children. The house museum built in 1893 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places is at 416 Church St. in Central. It has a railroad model of Central in the ’30s. Volunteers are needed in the gardens.

Biltmore Estate

The Biltmore is open daily from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. It is located on Highway 25 in Asheville, N.C., north of I-40 exit 50 or 50 B. Call (877) 324-5866.

The Oconee Heritage Center in Walhalla serves as an archive, educational facility and museum of the county’s history. OHC is open Tues., Thurs. and Fri. from noon-5 p.m., Sat. from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. or special appointment. Call (864) 638-2224 or visit the Web site at www.oconeeheritagecenter.org

The entrance gates to Historic Old Pickens Church and Cemeteries will be open to the public all winter from sunrise to sunset — located on S. C. Route 183 just past the employee entrance to Duke Energy. Look for the white sign. Please sign the guest book in the mailbox.

Rose Hill Plantation Historic Site is open Thurs.-Mon. from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and the mansion is open for tours from 1-4 p.m. on Sardis Road eight miles south of Union in Union County. Call (864) 427-5966.

The Lunney House Museum, 211 W.S. First St. in Seneca, is open Thurs.-Sun., 1-5 p.m. or by appointment. (864) 882-4811 Free. This 1909 California-style Arts & Crafts bungalow is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the SC Heritage Corridor and contains Oconee county memorabilia, curiosities and a mixture of mission and Victorian furnishings. Pickens County Museum of Art and History is open Tues., Wed. & Fri. 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Thurs. 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m. and Sat. 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (864) 898-5963.

Patriots’ Hall: Oconee Veterans’ Museum is open Sat. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. or by appointment. It is located in the “Old Rock Building” behind the courthouse in Walhalla. Donations, call President Charles Brickett at (864) 944-5112.

THEATRE

The Clemson Little Theatre proudly presents “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams Jan. 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and Feb. 1. Friday and Saturday curtain time is 8 p.m.; Sunday matinee is 3 p.m. Tickets for adults are $15; college students (with ID) and youths under 19 are $7.

Oconee Community Theatre presents the dramatic comedy “MacBeth Did It” by John Patrick Feb. 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22. Evening shows are at 8 p.m.; Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $8 for students and children. Call (864) 882-7700 for reservations and info.

Clemson Area Youth Theatre will conduct auditions for “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” Jan. 11 from 3-5 p.m. and Jan. 12 and 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Cox Hall next to the Pendleton Playhouse, 214 South Mechanic St., Pendleton. MISCELLANEOUS

The Oconee Heritage Center will hold “Movie Night at the Museum.” Each month, on the third Saturday, the OHC will be showing a classic old movie with free admission. Each month, the movie will be prefaced with a short presentation of the historical events portrayed. The movies will be posted on the museum’s Web site. Everyone is welcome and free popcorn will be provided. Classroom seating will be provided, but everyone is welcome to bring a comfortable chair.

Stroke and osteoporosis screening will take place at the First Baptist Church, 403 E. Because of an exceptionally great season this year, Elf Thelma has placed a call for donations to the Shoppe at the Walhalla Civic Auditorium. The Auditorium is open before and during shows and Tuesday through Friday from 1 – 5 p.m.

A Beginning Beekeeper Short Course will run for seven weeks beginning Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. and will be held upstairs in the auditorium of the Agriculture Building in Walhalla. $30 for adult; $45 per couple and $15 for youths under 16. Includes a beekeeping handbook, other course materials and a one-year membership in the local and state membership. Call (864) 638-5889 ext. 0 to sign up.

The Clemson Area StoryTellers (CAST) Guild presents “A Celebration of Story: An evening of stories” featuring Special Guest Teller, Nancy Basket sharing stories from her Cherokee heritage, also some of the finest tellers in South Carolina, a Clemson area Youth Teller, food and door prizes. 7 p.m. Feb. 24.
