Janis Sutter
Janis Sutter is one of the newest volunteers at Oconee Medical Center since starting on June 1. She does a little bit of everything right now such as being a greeter, delivering flowers to patients and getting people familiar with the new hospital.
Later this month, she will be volunteering in the new joint care center, New Life Center for Joint Health, for patients who have total hip and knee replacements. She will be available to bring them newspapers, coffee and whatever else they need.
Originally from Seattle, Wash., Sutter has lived all over the United States. She was fortunate enough to retire when her husband did and wanted to stay busy and do something for other people. “I have so much fun,” says Sutter. “Everyone is incredibly nice and so friendly here.”
She also volunteers her time helping FOLKS (Friends of Lake Keowee Society) with its computer accounts system and does a lot of work in the neighborhood.
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, contemporary quilting and also teaches water aerobics and fitness classes.
