— A 30-year-old Walhalla man is still behind bars with no bond yet set for allegedly burglarizing his own aunt’s residence.

Michael Shane Reed was arrested Wednesday after Oconee County Sheriff’s deputies obtained warrants in connection with the June 27 incident.

According to the report, a 68-year-old woman living on Lake Keowee heard a noise at roughly 2 a.m., and when she got out of her bed, stepped onto something. When she looked down, she was startled to see her own nephew, Reed, lying on the floor with his hand in her pocketbook.

Reed allegedly told the victim he gained access to the residence because the door was unlocked, and that he was there because he was running from the law. She eventually was able to walk him to the door, at which point he instructed her to not call the authorities, according to the report.

When deputies arrived, they heard a small boat leave the area “in a hurry.”

Photos of the entry point were taken where the suspect is believed to have cut the screen in the front bedroom window.

Deputies are looking into the possibility of Reed’s connections to other reported burglaries in the area.

SENECA MAN ARRESTED IN COLUMBIA

A Seneca man done serving his time in Columbia was picked up by Seneca Police on Wednesday for allegedly selling drugs in the city a year ago.

Jackie Clinton Robinson, 53, had been serving time at Manning Correctional Institution on an unrelated charge, and upon completing his sentence, was held by the facility for Seneca, which had warrants for an incident occurring April 2008.

Warrants indicate that on April 24, 2008, undercover operatives working under the supervision of the Seneca Police Department purchased crack cocaine from Robinson within a half-mile radius of Code Elementary School.

Robinson was transported to Oconee County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of distributing crack and distributing crack within proximity to a school.

He was released the same day on $15,000 personal recognizance bond.
