WESTMINSTER During a roadblock checkpoint over the weekend, a routine license check got more than an intoxicated driver off the streets.
Jonathan Chad Galbreath, 34, of 676 Cleveland Pike Road in Westminster faces a variety of charged after he approached a traffic stop at Toccoa Highway and North Alexander Road on Friday.
Initially, officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol. Officer Darren Grant then began speaking with Galbreath and noticed a black handgun under the center armrest. Grant also noted several alcoholic beverages open throughout the vehicle and called for more assistance from officers at the checkpoint.
Both Galbreath and his passenger failed field sobriety tests. Before being placed under arrest, officers also found numerous schedule two and four narcotics in the vehicle.
The suspect was carrying two prescription bottles with the labels scraped off containing 44 pills of Zanax and 15 pills of Naloxone, a schedule four narcotic. Galbreath was charged with drug possession with intent to distribute.
In addition, the gun was not loaded, but a full magazine clip was found in the glove compartment. Galbreath did not have a concealed weapon’s license and the gun was taken into evidence.
