A young boy from Martin, Ga. is in good condition at Greenville Memorial Hospital after sustaining severe damage to his foot from a freak accident on Lake Hartwell this past weekend.

Austin Swift, 12, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital on Saturday and is scheduled to have his injured foot amputated, Reverend Lee Pointer, the Swift’s family spokesperson, said.

“They were on the lake and had a large tube tied onto the boat. The wind caught it, and it broke the mount that holds the tie-down, and it just pulled the tube off the boat,” Pointer said. “The rope wrapped around his foot and picked him up and just sent him down towards the back of the boat, and crushed the end of his foot.”

Sandra Dees, spokesperson for Greenville Hospital System, said Swift’s foot was already partially amputated in the accident. Swift is being treated at Children’s Hospital of Greenville.

Pointer, who is the reverend at the Swift family’s church, Old Pathway Baptist Church in Bowersville, Ga., said the boy and his parents, Billy and Amanda, are doing “extraordinarily well.”

“He’s in good spirits. He’s got a lot of faith in the Lord and trust in him,” Pointer said. “He’s doing very well with it under the circumstances.”

Those wishing to send their regards to the Swift family can do so by mailing cards to the Old Pathway Baptist Church, 70 Lankford Road, Bowersville, Ga. 30516, Pointer added.
