Leigh Richey is a licensed practical nurse at Lila Doyle Nursing Care Facility in Seneca. She began a year ago as a CPN (certified practical nurse), finished her schooling and became an LPN (licensed practical nurse) in January of this year.

Working on a long-term care hall, she is responsible for giving the residents their medicines, changing dressings and the overall care to make them happy and comfortable.

Having received her degree from the Tri-County Oconee Campus, Richey was part of the first group to graduate from the Hamilton Career Center location in Seneca.

After taking care of her stepmother who was fighting cancer for three years and being in and out of doctor’s offices and the hospital, she decided she wanted to become a nurse.

She says she enjoys older people. “They’ve lived long lives and done a lot of interesting things,” says Richey.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Boyd, and children, Beth and Austen. She is also looking forward to becoming a new grandmother in July.
