October witnessed the arrival of yet another new store on Ram Cat Alley.

Alison Springs is the owner of Green Springs and she takes delight in opening her store even though it wasn’t part of her original plan.

Springs was a PhD. level scientist at Michigan State University and later joined the team at Greenville Hospital to do research. When that research was terminated, Springs made the bold decision to open a gift store across the street from her mother, Lucinda Becker, owner of The Red Door.

“It was a leap of faith,” she stated. “It was a matter of ‘can I do this or should I do this?’”

Springs has enjoyed every moment of business ownership. The motto of Green Springs is “Live your good life,” advocating five simple rules: relax, enjoy, cherish, journey and preserve.

The store is in a historic building and features products such as furniture made out of recycled wine barrels, pitchers in the shape of fish, vibrant umbrellas, a soy blend candle line originating in Spartanburg, homemade spa products and many other items.

Being a South Carolina native, Springs tries to keep most of the products local.

On Nov. 20 she will host a grand opening during Downtown Go ’Round.
