FOR THE JOURNAL
Hailing from Australia, The Ten Tenors have been seen by more than 90 million people on four continents.
CLEMSON Hailing from Australia, The Ten Tenors are slated to take The Brooks Center stage at Clemson University on Monday, Nov. 9.
The group of strapping young men brings not only their undeniable vocal talent to the Upstate, but group member Ben Clark admits that it never hurts to be Australian.
“This group got started while some of the guys were studying opera in the area. They made some extra beer money after booking a corporate gig and never looked back,” Clark said jokingly.
And while the group of ten makes it a point to have fun on stage, there is nothing comical about their abilities.
The melody of their gracefully rustic voices makes for a rousing tribute from the land down under.
Mixing powerful opera, rock, pop and more, The Ten Tenors’ performance will have something for every type of musical fan.
“We’re laid back,” Clark said. “We will perform traditional opera pieces, then we’ll throw some Bohemian Rhapsody from Queen in there too. It’s just a lot of fun.”
The title of their show is “Nostalgica,” a compellation of past chart topping favorites as well as some of their most requested songs throughout their 10 years of performing.
It’s dubbed, “A greatest hits tour with a twist.”
“It’s a really exciting show,” he said. “People aren’t always too sure what to expect, but we definitely have enough to please everyone.”
The current crew has been together for about two years. They tour 10 months out of the year and have performed for nearly 90 million fans since they started.
In 1995, if you had told 10 students from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music that in 13 years time they would have toured the world several times over, produced Gold & Platinum Award Winning CDs & DVDs, taken both pop and opera music-lovers by storm, sold albums in 27 countries around the world and gathered legions of adoring fans, they would have laughed.
But now, it’s all part of being one of The Ten Tenors.
The group has worked alongside famous artists — including Rod Stewart, Alanis Morissette, Andrea Boccelli, Christina Aguilera and Willie Nelson — all of whom cover a wide variety of musical tastes.
Since their popularity exploded, they have extensively toured throughout Europe, becoming one of the most successful Australian touring acts of all time. They now tour the world, performing over 250 concerts on various continents around the world.
With an unparalleled repertoire, The Ten Tenors have taken their passion for quality music and powerful singing to such venues as London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House, The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Tchaikovsky Hall Moscow, and are delighted to be sharing this latest step in the journey with their Upstate audience fans, according to management of The Ten Tenors.
On Monday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m., their show will come to the Upstate at The Brooks Center.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students.
