Editor:
It seems to me that your high profile campaign in apparent support of Wayne McCall in the matter of Oconee County taxes is presenting a very one-sided picture. If you have any aspirations to objective journalism, you should also publicize the large potential liabilities that hang like a dark cloud over the County's finances.
The likely costs associated with the jail and the courthouse are fairly well known, but in addition I understand there is a probable underfunding of County employee benefit plans which could amount to some $10 million. If you total just these three items you can easily reach a possible liability of $30 million, which suggests that, contrary to your inferences, County Council is being prudent and responsible to retain a healthy cushion.
I have no connection with County Council or county administration; I'm simply a citizen concerned about responsible governance. I think your populist appeal does that goal a disservice.

Thank you, Mr. Wall, for pointing these things out. Too bad The Journal doesn't do its job.
