WALHALLA Blue Ridge Electric Co-Op in partnership with the Mountain Lakes Convention and Visitors Bureau of Oconee County, has announced the inaugural Vet-Fest to be held at the Patriots Hall Veterans Museum, November 13-14.
Designed as a charitable event, the purpose of the Vet-Fest is to honor all veterans for their service to the country while raising funds to expand exhibits within Patriots Hall. Friday night’s schedule includes an automobile Cruise-In from 5-10 p.m. with Uncle James Bar-B-Qu and the music of “The Flashbacks” from 6-9 p.m.
Saturday morning will kicak off at 9 a.m. with a “Ride of Honor.” Motorcyclists and others who desire to participate are invited on a trip through Oconee County and the Sumter National Forest which includes a stop at Wiggington Overlook for a spectacular view of Cheohee Valley and Lakes Jocassee and Keowee. The ride culminates back at Patriots Hall where the celebration continues with more food and music from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. by the “Oconee County Blue Grass Boys.” “Tom Shull,” “The Dixie Keys” and the barbershop quartet “Not For Sale.”
The Harley Davidson Hero’s Tour bus will be present all day to assist Disabled American Veterans with information about DAV benefits.
At 2:30 p.m., The Oconee County Office of Veterans Affairs will oversee a ceremony honoring all veterans that will commence with the posting of colors. Honored guests and featured dignitaries are scheduled to appear.
The entire event is free for all attendees. Cruise-In participants can expect a $10 entry fee to park their cars. Ride of Honor participants on Saturday will be charged $20 per vehicle.
