CENTRAL — For the third consecutive year, the Southern Wesleyan volleyball team will be using its sport to raise money to assist with breast cancer research.

On Saturday, Oct. 31, Southern Wesleyan will host Faulkner University at 1 p.m. The match has been designated as a “Dig Pink” match, which is a program that more than 1,000 high schools and colleges are participating in this volleyball season. “Dig Pink” is being sponsored by the Side-Out Foundation, with the money raised going to help fund research for this terrible disease. Both teams will wear pink uniforms and historic Tysinger Gymnasium will be decorated in pink.

The volleyball team is hoping to raise at least $3,500 through the “Dig Pink” initiative. As incentive, SWU volleyball head coach Derek Schmitt has agreed to dye his hair pink for the “Dig Pink” match if the goal is met by Oct. 30.
