Willie,

I was glad to see that the justice system at least gave a minimal amount of punishment to the magistrate that got in trouble in Columbia. These magistrates and judges need to understand that they are not above the law. This brings me to my main comment. There is a municipal judge that through his gossip and statements caused a good friend of mine that is in law

enforcement to be reprimanded. He is always blowing things out of proportion and using his coined phrase “everybody is talking, everybody is talking” when in fact, he is the only one running off at the mouth. I think The Journal did an excellent job in covering the case with the magistrate that was arrested. There needs to be a lot of light shone on these people so to reveal what goes on inside and outside the courtroom with these so-called public servants. The conduct of the magistrate should not be tolerated nor should an individual be punished because of malicious gossip spread by one of these judges.

Willie says:

If our justice system works the way Lady Justice intends, every person will get their just punishment regardless of how “powerful” or “important” they are. Also gossip is never good, but especially when it is spread by someone who should be more professional in their behavior.

Willie,

I have a gripe about the illegals and our police (county and cities). How do the illegals get away with driving or even working without a driver’s license or green card? I live next to a U.S. citizen who has a few illegals living with them. They let them drive their cars. I know for a fact the illegals have been pulled over and fined for no licenses, drunk driving and

speeding and they are still driving. They have been arrested and released a number of times. I have even tried to give a description of the cars that they drive and the cops say, “What can I do or mind your own business.”

Willie says:

There are many arrests made for violations of traffic laws where the driver is also cited for not having a valid driver’s license. What happens next is up to the courts — not the police. If the punishment is a “slap on the hand” and to go free, where is the motivation to stop breaking the law?

Willie,

I am 83 years old. As a lad in the ’30s and ’40s, I learned that people were basically truthful. Oh yes, one would occasionally be known as a person who would tell a falsehood. By and large, one could believe what people said because they had pride, integrity and would never have one doubt their word. Their word was their bond! That no longer seems to be important in today’s world. Just read the e-mails on the Internet. If a person believes the lies (whether from the Republicans or the Democrats), they must have their head in the sand. Certainly, some of this nonsense may be true, but if one truly reads all the anti-information proposed, they would have to accept that much of the “information” is outright lies. I would hope and pray that Americans could find it acceptable to again be totally truthful and avoid all the falsehoods that are being presented to the public. I know that I am asking a lot, but we, the American people, must get back to the ideals of our forefathers, stop procrastinating, stand up for the benefit of our children and grandchildren and stop spending their inheritances.

Willie says:

Willie could not agree with you more. A person who is “honest” is a real treasure. They will not: lie, steal, cheat, commit adultery, speak malicious gossip, and on and on. They stand by their word. May we all be and have many honest friends.

Willie,

Why don’t you print something about all that money they got in Walhalla and what to do and what not to do with it. Put in there we need a new jail house built, turn it back or give it to the state where they could build a new jail house. And, why did the state pay for the signs to cross the streets? I can understand like on the 123 Bypass, but these little places don’t need them.

Willie says:

Willie’s seen these very topics covered in The Journal regularly. And, just because a community is little doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve nice signs that enhance safety.

No need for the old "process of elimination". There is only one municipal judge left in the county.

    budro,

you are correct. I forgot about the one that is also an attorney in Seneca. He is a real nice fellow. Always a pleasure to deal with.

    Sounds like Seneca,

The reputation of back biting and gossip has always been there. A friend applied for the Cheif of Police then withdrew his name because of all of the knives thrown in his and other applicants back.
You would think the mayor and council would hear all of this and do something to stop it. It can't be a good enviroment to work in.

Just because your father is friends of the mayor and his brother-in-law does not qualify you to be in that type of position. I agree with the author of the article in Tell Willie, the conduct of these appointed person(s) needs to be looked at closer.

pgoldman, The two municipal judges are Danny Singleton and Scott Sprouse. Mr. Sprouse is an attorney from Seneca. He is a real nice man.

The three magistrates are Derrick, Norton and Simmons.

    pgoldman,

In Oconee County, it's not what you know it is who. I have met Mr. Derrick but I do not claim to know him as well as it sounds as you do. I disagree with the statement made about Mr. Sprouse. He was a great help to my grandfather in his last years. I appreciate his talents in the court room.
It does appear that most of the folks named as judges or magistrates got their positions because of their relationship to someone. I may be wrong but it seems that Mr.Sprouse and Mr. Simmons are the only two lawyers in the group. Maybe I am wrong or maybe the job does not require much of an education. Could be that they are appointed in the same manner that President Obama's czars are appointed, by friendship and kinship.
