Hoover
SENECA A Seneca man with a history of violence was arrested this weekend in connection with an alleged domestic dispute that occurred two weeks ago.
Layfette R. Hoover remains in Oconee County Detention Center on a $10,000 surety bond after being arrested on Friday.
According to the incident report, Oconee County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a South Oak Street residence on Oct. 10, where Hoover had allegedly assaulted his estranged girlfriend and another individual at the scene.
According to witness statements, Hoover went to see his ex-girlfriend, with whom he has two children, and the two began to argue. At that time, the second victim allegedly attempted to pull Hoover away from the women, but Hoover then reportedly attempted to hit him. The strike missed the second victim, but hit another individual’s car, damaging it. The vehicle photographed at the scene
The case was referred to the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, which later arrested Hoover on a charge of second offense criminal domestic violence.

Predicting some likely comments here, comments like, "Ohhhh these troubled (sniff) people. The way to end this pattern is with (sniff) more education", okay. Let's have some more education on domestic violence. Let's educate our legislators and judges that we need tougher laws and mandatory sentences requiring hard time in prison for this kind of behavior. Let's educate our county leaders that it's time to build that extra jail space we've been needing for many years, to lock away these offenders. Let's educate the men involved, "One more beating, one more conviction, and you do years in prison! Got that?". Let's educate the women involved, that we're fed up with them behaving as if they don't know what's causing all these kids they're having, and how absolutely stupid it is to get into these child-producing shack-up relationships. More education? You bet. And the tougher the message, the tougher the punishment, the better. If this guy has a violent history, why was he out of the slammer in the first place?

Oh, Dixie, You're just wrong! LOL!
thlhjh76, You're right! This is getting out of hand. Why can't we deal with these people firmly the first time, instead of sending them back out to do it again and again? As stated in another post, women are afraid to turn these guys in because they know the "justice" system will fail them and have the guys back out on the street with no treatment or time served. If he abused her before, how much worse will he be when he finds out she's the one that turned him in?!

Ahh, finally some common sense! Why do we let these people out!?! Our "stalker laws" do nothing for the victim. They only protect the stalker from getting arrested. You know what will happen....he will get out again and go straight for her. Hopefully, he still won't have good aim and miss her again next time! Hey, Dixie, maybe someone at OLEC will straighten out his vision...

Hear, hear!
While we're at it, let's educate all our young women on self-defense. That way they can take the abusers down at the scene of the crime and there will be no more waiting two weeks for the police to catch up with the criminals.

I agree. I think we should educate the women involved. They are ridiculous. They get the HE** beat out of them and then they either don't press charges or they do and then go running back when the offender is free. There are articles in the DJM all of the time about the police being called for a disturbance that turns out to be a domestic violence issue and the female doesn't want to press charges. I personally this THIS is crap.
Educate the lawmakers as well. Have them make tougher laws and allow the police more freedom to do their job. I think that if the police are called and its obvious that the guy is beating up the girl, arrest his behind and carry him to jail.

let justice be equal, just like other states, if the women throughs the first punch or slap, she has also commited cdv, same applies for men.

but it is. your only seeing the womans side because you are a female, cdv can also be avoided if thou tongue don't provoke it, silence is bliss. i could tell your one sided and probable due to you being a victim, but you have to be fair when weighing the scales of justice. you wanted equal rights you got them, you now have them in the work force. most women don't want the boyfriend or husband to go to jail because they know deep down inside they started the fight with thou tongue. most males just go to jail because male officers just assume. if males took up for other males like women take up for other women, can you imagine the peace that we would have had.

pgoldman, you should be ashamed! IT IS NEVER OKAY TO HIT A WOMAN REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH SHE RUNS HER MOUTH! Sometimes our words are our only defense! I have stopped a man from hitting me before by giving him a serious tongue lashing and that was the last time I ever saw him. My dad always taught me that no matter what you do a man is always stronger, so if you get attacked use your head(and anything else you can get your hands on). Now, that said, if I throw the first punch...then I'm just as guilty. How many times do we see woman stay in abusive relationships (for whatever reason) and our messed up justice system lets the guy out? Then what happens? He beats her more. When she FINALLY stands up to him and hurts him, she gets serious time. It doesn't sound equal to me.

I can't believe pgoldman thought I was a female simply because I see the woman's side. For many years I saw my mother abused. She had the same reactions. Call the police, leave with the kids, return back to the life of hell. That's where my understanding of this situation comes from. And yes, I sympathize with the women here because MOST of the time it is the man who is doing the abusing. That's also why I say that if the police show up and it's obvious, they shouldn't need for the woman to agree to press charges just to take him to jail.

If it's helps any, Common Sense, I always thought you were a guy. My aunt was a victim of the same circumstance. He finally put his hands on one of the children (she was an adult) and my aunt
left for good. But, the damage had been done to her and the kids.

pgoldman, so if a man mouths off to another man, does that justify the second man hitting the first? If not, what's the difference between a man and woman?
My father taught me (and my brothers) that any man who hits a woman is a coward.
He also taught us that it is never NEVER okay for a man to hit a woman, and it is only acceptable for a woman to hit a man if he hit her first. If all people lived by this simple rule, there would not be any cdvs.

I am a man. I am married with 3 sons. I am ex-Army and have fought for this country. I haven't been lonely for a VERY long time. I am a Christain, but not a very good one I must confess. I don't practice the 'turn the other cheek' policy as God instructed.
"turn on my own kind", "apple you put yourself in a mans position" You are the coward. Anybody who's not a complete IDIOT knows that 99% of the time, men are stronger than women. And any man that would raise his hands in violence towards a woman should spend time in jail. Given that you have explained your mentality, your level of intelligence and your position on the subject, it would not surprise me to find out that you have spent MUCH time in OLEC for cdv.
Now get off the PC and out of the basement. Your parents need to use the bandwidth.

I don't feel that anybody has the right to abuse another person. However I do feel that some people(and I am sad to say mostly women) abuse the CDV law that was put in place to protect mostly women. A person should not be arrested just because another person says they were hit. I know of people who have hit themselves then called the police and said someone else hit them, showed a red mark and the acused was arrested and charged with CDV. In most of these cases the acused is considered Guilty without proof but the acusser gets PITY from the public.
