COLUMBIA — Offensive tackle Duvan Milsap (6-5, 300) of Buford, Ga., committed to South Carolina on Tuesday night.
Milsap said he made his decision last week and contacted Gamecock offensive line coach Eric Wolford and his recruiter Shane Beamer with the pledge.
"It's closer to home and it just felt like a better fit," Milsap said. "I've been contemplating it for a while."
Milsap said he picked the Gamecocks over Oklahoma State and Ole Miss, and he also had offers from Clemson, Mississippi State, Louisville and East Carolina.
Milsap is the 19th commitment for the Gamecocks and the eighth offensive lineman — though another offensive lineman commitment, Elliot Williams of Georgia Military, may not make it into school for academic reasons.
The USC basketball team also gained a commitment for the 2011 class Tuesday from 6-8 forward Anthony Gill of Charlotte.
Gill is the Gamecocks' first commitment for the '11 class. He made an unofficial visit to USC this past Saturday. He averaged 11 points and 8 rebounds per game as a sophomore.
