— Clemson pitching coach Kyle Bunn has resigned his post to accept the same position at Alabama, Clemson head coach Jack Leggett confirmed on Thursday.

Leggett said he already has a number of applicants for the position and hopes to have Bunn’s replacement in place within the next few weeks.

“I will handle the pitchers until we get to the point where we hire somebody,” Leggett said. “We will figure that out. We have to go through the process. And once we get somebody we feel comfortable with, then we will make that decision and get them in as soon as possible.”

Bunn guided the Tiger pitching staff to the nation’s fifth-best ERA (3.68) last season as the team made its run to the NCAA super regionals.

Alabama assistant Mitch Gaspard was promoted to head coach last week, following the retirement of Jim Wells after 15 seasons at the helm, and upon being introduced, Gaspard said he planned to hire a pitching coach as soon as possible.

Bunn, who pitched at The Citadel from 1998-2001 and served as an assistant coach at Mississippi for six seasons (five as a volunteer), coached 16 pitchers at Ole Miss and six more during his two-year tenure at Clemson that were selected in the Major League Baseball amateur draft.

Leggett and the Tigers, meanwhile, are set to begin fall practice next Friday.

“We will not miss a beat, and we will keep on rolling,” Leggett said.
