Barrett vote was on the mark
Published Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009
Editor:
In the face of the worst act of anti-capitalist socialism since Social Security, our dear friend Gresham Barrett resisted the bleating of seniors, socialists, aliens and the "poor" and stood tall with 99.9 percent of the Republicans in the House of Representatives and voted against the so-called Affordable Health Care for America Act. Paper taken to task
Published Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009
Editor:
As a daily reader of The Journal, your position relative to the County Council's performance is abundantly clear. I would like to suggest, however, that The Journal focus more on accurately reporting the news, and let County Council focus on their responsibility for managing the county's affairs. Read More |

Money has been designated

I have noted your campaign to have taxes reduced and monies returned to the taxpayers. Normally I would agree with you, but these monies have been put aside for specific projects and needs.
I have to agree with Chuck Kormelink of Fair Play for the most part, except he forgot the new library that I am in favor of. Read More |

County tree hackers are back
Published Friday, Nov. 6, 2009
Editor:
Update: The county crew is back. They've insisted they remove the azalea "hedge" which I started 35 years ago as an erosion control effort in a muddy ditch. I'm meeting again Monday to make one last plea. But the following is an opportunity for citizens to retake some logic to the situation. Read More |

Newspaper campaign presents one side
Published Friday, Nov. 6, 2009
Editor:
It seems to me that your high profile campaign in apparent support of Wayne McCall in the matter of Oconee County taxes is presenting a very one-sided picture. If you have any aspirations to objective journalism, you should also publicize the large potential liabilities that hang like a dark cloud over the County's finances. Read More |

It's time for change in Pendleton
Published Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009
Editor:
As the past owner of The Pendleton Cafe and Coffees, I would like to comment on the future of Pendleton and the mayor's race.
Over our 7 years, I saw a rise in our customer base as we built our business and then a steady decline. Businesses would come and go on the Square. When we had a lot of vacant storefronts and businesses going out, our mayor and administrator would say that there was not much, if anything, they could do about this from a city government perspective. Burdette has been good for Pendleton
Published Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009
Editor:
During the past 12 years with Carol Burdette as mayor, people of Pendleton have worked together to make this a safe, quiet, friendly place for all citizens. With her quiet, unobtrusive manner, Carol has initiated many changes: streets paved, weekly garbage and recycling routes run, areas beautified, dilapidated buildings removed, unique garbage cans put around the square, a new library erected and additions to Veterans Park continued, to name a few.
