David Turner July 1, 2009 WALHALLA, S.C. — David Lewis Turner, 88, husband of Evelyn Duncan Turner, of 1513 Pickens Highway, died Wednesday, July 1 at Cottingham House in Seneca, S.C.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, July 3 from the Chapel of Davenport Funeral Home. Burial will follow with military rites in Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. today, July 3 at Davenport Funeral Home. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, Attn: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672. The family is at the residence.
A native of Pickens County, S.C., Mr. Turner was the son of the late James and Inez Gilstrap Turner. He was the retired long time owner/operator of Fairfield Grocery and a member of North Walhalla Church of God. Mr. Turner was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his wife of the home, Mr. Turner is survived by daughter, Karen Abel and husband, Donovan of Walhalla; grandson, Timothy Wirtz and wife, Amanda of Walhalla and great-grandchildren, Heaven Herron and Kyler Leslie.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Turner was preceded in death by brothers, John, William and Ernest Turner; sisters, Emma King, Ollie Eades, Lizzie Turner and Leila Winchester and stepsister, Louise Cantrell.
