Frieda Marie Petersen July 1, 2009 SALEM, S.C. — Frieda Marie Petersen, 89, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 1 at the Keowee Key home of her daughter, Susan Lehman and her husband, John, where she has resided the past three years. Assistance in her care in recent weeks was provided by Hospice of Seneca.
No services are planned at this time.
Born in Norwood, Ohio on Sept. 9, 1919 to Edward August Juergens and Augusta Marie Luessen Juergens. Frieda was the widow of John J. Petersen whom she married on Dec. 25, 1941 in St. Louis, Mo. John passed away in 1984.
Mrs. Petersen was of the Methodist faith and while residing in Maitland, Fla. for many years, she sewed in excess of 100,000 felt “wordless books” for distribution by Child Evangelism throughout the world. In recent years, she attended St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Seneca.
Frieda is survived by their four children, 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her daughter, Susan, she is survived by her son, John Edward Petersen (Janet) of St. Louis and daughters, Judith Kay Parker (Robert) of Arlington, Va. and Elizabeth Jane Haley (Jim) of Oxford, Ohio. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Florence Vaughan of Pensacola, Fla.
