John M. Shelhamer

SALEM, S.C. — John M. Shelhamer, formerly of Penn Yan, N.Y. (Keuka Lake), died Oct. 13 after a brief illness.

A memorial service will be held from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 at The Club at Keowee Key. Memorials may be made to the Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.

After high school, John served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He was a lifelong member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 46 of Rochester, N.Y. Throughout the years, he worked for various construction companies in the heating and air conditioning industry on projects such as the Ginna and Nine Mile Point Nuclear Plants and several building projects for Wegmans Supermarket chain. John loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Lou (Yohonn) Shelhamer; his son, Michael Shelhamer of Boudler, Colo.; stepbrother, Daniel Shelhamer of Dundee, N.Y.; nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends.
