Duke Energy's World of Energy hosted a "job shadow day" on Monday for about 20 students from their "adopted" school, Tamassee-Salem Middle and High School. The station manager, Mike Glover, (not pictured) talked with students, sharing his insight on education, careers, work experience and how the nuclear plant works. The students then were able to talk "one-on-one" with some of the recent hires in engineering, maintenance and radiation protection. A rare opportunity was provided when the students were allowed to go inside the simulator, a replica of Unit 1's control that the operators use in training. JR Steely, manager of operations training at ONS; left, explained to the students the function of the control room simulator and instructed them in a few sessions, allowing the students to participate in "hands on" training. | View photo »
