Griz Hockwalt has been fascinated by blacksmithing since he got out of the service in the 1970s.

Blacksmiths heat metal in a forge. The blacksmiths coal that is used is called 'green' coal when it's first put in. When it's heated enough, it turns into 'coke,' which is coal without the impurities. 'That's what we work in,' Hockwalt said.

Blacksmith Griz Hockwalt can create just about anything. This shoe was modeled after a pair that his wife, Helen, owns.
