On Group begins beating drums for Census count

I don't know what will be asked in that short form. If it asks for the number of people living in a house, that question alone meets the requirements of the census (Article 1 Section 2). The actual count is important, and required every 10 years, but only the count is required. The Constitution does not require disclosures about family income, education level, age, race, etc. For Americans who are reluctant to answer personal questions on a census form, remember that only the actual population count is required by the Constitution.

I don't go to the high school football games, so the comment about showing as much spirit as humanly possible went past me. I hope, in showing as much spirit as humanly possible, he doesn't mean sounding off with those deafening air horns that can be heard a mile away, and just deafened the people sitting nearby. I remember a complaint about those air horns, several years ago, and wonder if they're back. I can't imagine a fan, or a principal complaining about a mostly seated crowd around him, doing normal cheering.

Willie strayed off track on his CAT bus reply. The caller said nothing about speeding. I'd also like to know if state law allows a bus, a truck, any vehicle, to just stop repeatedly in the middle of the road for whatever reason. Maybe CAT is getting a free pass on blocking traffic, a "look the other way", to increase their rider numbers and help prop up the program. After all, on many routes, stopping in the middle of the road, piling up traffic to pick up two more riders doubles the number on board. I bet they're getting away with it because no one is challenging the stops. Does anyone know if the law exempts these CAT buses? I bet it doesn't.

Take a few deeeeeep breaths, shaft319. Calm down. The tips division comments made above were CLEARLY an example of financial redistribution. Sparrow made a connection to redistributionist economics. I agreed it's redistributionist, and compared it to a well known quote by an author who also believed in redistribution. Apparently, you're familiar with that author also, and that's what set you off. Since you said I need to become more educated on redistribution proposals, maybe you can help. Maybe you can educate all of us by pointing out, in the Constitution, anything that allows the government to decide who makes too much, take a disproportionate share of it, and hand it to someone the government determines makes too little (redistribution). Go ahead. Please tell us where you found that, but I wouldn't waste too much time looking. Educate us.

Hmmm...just wondering, Sparrow, doesn't that tips redistribution method also fall within the guidelines of "Obamanomics"? Haven't we also read a supporting quote by a world-famous author somewhere, "From each according to his ability, to each......" well, you know the rest, and you know the author. I'll leave it at that.

Another local restaurant has CNN blaring, a radio station playing music (?) so loud through the ceiling speakers we can't talk, AND the problem with the yelling, screeching drive through window. Until recently, music in restaurants was peaceful background music. Now it's like being on the front row of a rock concert in many restaurants. My guess is that many of them have a very young work force, and a very young assistant manager on duty, all of them enjoying THEIR music wide open. It's also our fault, if we don't tell the manager or employees "Turn it down, or turn it off!!", or write or call the corporate office to complain. If enough of us do it, we can get back to an adult, sane, decibel level in restaurants.

On Mayor says illegal aliens abound

clemsonjosh, sslader is right. Seven percent is EITHER .07, or 7%, not both. It's not .07%. My, my, how is it possible to complete junior high school and not know the difference?

On Council chair to address tax issue early Tuesday

I agree, ldavis. Return our money. Even the not-so-liked Internal Revenue Service returns the amount of our money overwithheld when we file our tax returns. Whether it's an overpayment to IRS, or to the county, return the money. I really don't care how many nonessential projects or programs they have to delay or drop completely to do it. I hope the Department of Revenue makes them refund, and I've heard that's happened in other counties. The next thing we'd have to watch for is them raising our taxes enough to have enough for refunds. Cut spending, drop projects, or rebate over several years if necessary, but refund.

On Council chair to address tax issue early Tuesday

Let's see if I understand. Even though this tax/overtax issue is the hottest item on the minds of thousands of Oconee citizens, Blanchard may not allow (not ALLOW??) an overflow crowd to speak. Not allow concerned citizens to speak for three minutes on an issue that may have a huge effect on their tax bills and bank accounts? Using this arbitrary rule, all County Council has to do to avoid hearing comments from us is just omit from the agenda anything they don't want to discuss or hear from us about. Very clever, very slippery, but I doubt it will silence a very concerned, likely overtaxed room full of citizens who may want to be "allowed" to speak to their county government.

2 of 2 people thought this was a good comment.

On Mayor says illegal aliens abound

John Frady needs to apologize to the many thousands of "radicals" who are sending him his regular paycheck. If the school board doesn't insist on that public apology, and Mr. Frady doesn't come up with one on his own, some resignations on a silver platter would be a good alternative. If wanting immigration laws obeyed, and if speaking out on the illegal immigration problem is now considered "radical" by Mr. Frady, I think I prefer that silver platter option.
